On 23 March 2023 I played a game of Infinity against a new opponent. The mission was "Data Theft", one taken from the "Raveneye" supplement as suggested by our local group organizer. It is a bit more involved mission than I have engaged with in the past, featuring a bit of chance as well as several avenues to advance your score and inhibit the score of your opponent.

I kind of did ok with this mission - it only went on for two rounds before we ran out of time, but both of us achieved the primary objective and dealt a hefty bit of damage to each other. Ultimately it was my opponent's victory, but it was a narrow one. More on that in a bit.

I angled this against the realities of the mission, wherein we have several bonus features armies automatically inherit. The "Close Quarters" feature boosts templates by +1, and so I made sure to have a few templates at hand in the form of light shotguns and rocket launchers. I was on the fence about replacing my Zheydan HMG with a missile launcher variant but ultimately favored the extra dice of the HMG over the area effect of the missile.

The "Amplifier" rule gives +3 to Comms Attacks so I was sure to take several Hackers - hackers which are automatically Specialists and have a scenario bonus to activating Antennas. Things like Pitchers, Deployable Repeaters, and even Forward Deployment help extend the usefulness of hacking as an offensive and defensive tool.

For primary offense I took a pretty muscular approach, fielding the rocket Al Fasid for the first time to take advantage of its +1 Damage bonus in blast mode (and the fact that it naturally has +1 Burst as well). Its high overall toughness is something I wanted, and I went into this thinking the mines might be useful for something as well. This became my scenario-granted "Master Breacher" - gaining NCO and D-Charges for free, helping me get this thing up the field via LT orders if required. Backing this hacker and bullet magnet up is the Asawira - my LT and having +1 LT Order due to the scenario's "Vantage Command" rule - and the HMG-wielding Zheyadan as before. Parallel to this is my Hortlak - chosen for overall toughness, MSV-1, and the Chain of Command skill giving me a possible LT replacement as well as allowing it to be a tough specialist should I find myself needing one to secure the Datapack.

Support and such was provided by the usual complement of Ghulam and Daylami, as well as a flashbot and a repeater bot to watch one of my DZs.

My opponent brought Ariadna (Kosmoloft Sectoral), and of his entire list only three guys started out known to me - everything else was either off board or a camo token. Ariadna, I swear.

I only fought Ariadna once previously and other than reading into them a bit in the ensuing months had little grasp of the faction (not that I could pre-plan as I did not know what they were playing until it was deployment time). My reflections on this list is best saved for the retrospectives below.

Still working out the ideal balance of image to text for this game - Bolt Action is easier to skim down on but a given turn in Infinity can be a bit more technical so I find myself taking many more shots than with recent Bolt Action games. Let me know what you think. Anyways, game time.

On 4 April 2023 I played a game of Infinity against a new opponent. The game was Quadrant Control, and two out of three turns were completed before the game ended due to timeout. It looks like this one was a Haqq victory, as I did at one point control one quadrant over my opponent. More of that in a bit.

Photography on this one is pretty poor, as I was rather tucked away in a corner behind someone else's game and did not want to intrude on them every time I had to take a shot.

Some familiar faces here for sure. Not having played against Morats my knowledge of them was limited - they appeared to be tough, direct brawler types to me and so I wanted to delay them a bit with midfield tokens while also being ready to push against them with the usual mix of rockets and HMGs that I currently seem to favor.

The SecDet was borrowed from my opponent; I'll get around to painting mine eventually!

I don't really know Morats, other than that they are part of the Combined Army and play pretty straight forward - no camo, nothing particularly technical. I'd taken a scan through the roster on the army builder and saw there was a fair bit of toughness, armor, and some good BTS (though apparently that was selection bias on the latter and their BTS is generally low).

On 11 April 2023 I played a game of Infinity against an opponent I clashed with about a month previously. The game was Supplies, which was the game mode I played before (being my first game even). This time around, we opted against using the SecDet component the mission offers.

Supplies is a grab-and-dash type mission, where Specialists need to run up to the supply caches, activate them with a WIP roll, grab the supplies out, and keep control of it until end of game. Scoring is all done at the end, and there is no "end zone" the supplies need returned to. Doctors and Paramedics get a bonus to the activation roll.

I designed my list around three avenues of approach to the supplies - a cautious team where smoke and MSV-marksman can be used to engage targets difficult to take head on like strong ARO pieces, a gunfighter team to take things down with direct action, and a dispersed "forward team" of various infiltrators setup to mostly frustrate my opponent's designs but also having a few Specialists who could nab a supply box in a pinch - chief of all being the Ayyar, whose hidden deployment would allow him to either drop a key piece of my opponent or swoop in at the last minute to scoop up the box I plan to deploy him near. On overwatch are a few more-or-less dedicated ARO-pieces - Lasiq, Warcor, Flashbot, Daylami. That was the broad-stroke idea, anyway.

Doctors get a bonus but I only opted to bring one - with limited slots available but having spare points (once I dropped the Al Fasid HMG I'd originally intended to bring), I decided to upgrade from a Ghulam doctor to a Zhayedan for somewhat improved survivability. Plus, since it's running with a push team of gunfighters the Shock Boarding Shotgun with Marksmanship would be welcome as I close in to one of the supply objectives.

My Tuareg would be proxying for Yara Haddad, because Yara doesn't have a model at all (CB pls).

I have never faced Corregidor before and was expecting to face my opponent's Yu Jing again - I can't say I was ill prepared but I definitely had limited insight into exactly what I was facing. Overall I think this list performed well and that DZ Parachutist he brought definitely cinched his victory. More on that as the situation unfolds.

On 18 April 2023 I played a game of Infinity against an opponent I had not played since last fall. The game mode was Annihilation, and I decided to try a front-heavy list to try and see what kind of mayhem I could bring. Turns out I brought none, and it was basically a route, so let's take a look at all that.

I had originally started to build something a little more conventional for me - albeit with more Zhayedan types than usual - but I sensed this was a rare opportunity to field a bunch of heavier-than-normal models. I even chose to field two Al Fasid!

This was a mistake - I over-invested like no one's business, with predictable results. This is no surprise to me either, but rolled with it because I thought it would be fun to run something top-heavy like this at least once. No MSV, no Doctors, no Engineers - don't run lists like this.

My opponent was testing this list for an upcoming tournament, so it was actually sensible from what I can figure out. This isn't my first game against PanO, but it is against this Sectoral. This is also the first time I was exposed to the Albedo rule, which I accidentally was not impacted by because I brought no MSV.

Operation Sujar
In the KI-11 sector of Paradisio, Haqqislamite scouts discovered a secret Pan Oceanan operations base. As this was outside of the authorization zone, it was fair game. Local command gave the authorization for a strike team to be assembled, and Task Force Dahia entered the AOR with one order: Destroy.

Annihilation is pure kill points: You get points for killing certain brackets of the enemy's point value based on overall points played. You get bonus points for killing their LT as well.

Pre-game and Deployment
I won the roll-off and decided to deploy second. My opponent set all his guys up (sans Reserve) and I deployed mine, forgetting to keep a reserve. My midfield pieces were a Farzan minelayer on the far left (with a mine behind) and a Daylami nearby, and another Daylami over on my right in the tower. Troop-wise I have a broad spread of firepower to the fore, balancing it left and right as the center could be covered by both. To the rear, I drop a few mines off the Al Fasid and leave a Ghazi on overwatch - this is because my brush with Parachutist (Deployment Zone) units a little while ago makes me paranoid. Off-board I had a Ragik, ready to drop in on a trouble piece.

My opponent then deployed his reserve - a Guarda, who would be quite the problem here in a bit.

My opponent decided he would go first, and it was off to the races!
