Not sure if this is rules as much as it's personal experience.

I know the rules for proxying are very forgiving but I just want to understand to what extent people really use them/how they do it without confusing themselves or their opponents.

As an example, I've got one of each of the new Wildcats (one of each being very much my purchasing plan), would folks reasonably accept such a description as the spitfire is a spitfire, the others are both combi rifles or the other way around that two of the three have the loadout the mini has and the other is different?

Do players find this confusing or is it pretty much the norm. I haven't played enough to get any sort of feel for this.

probably no one will complain in that case. The spitfire is the correct loadout and the other two are proxying the same loadout, so it easy to remember

as long as you are clear about what is what on the table you could play with paper cutouts or minis from other ranges, as far as weapon options go it is CBs fault for not selling different arm options with all weapons available to to the specific troop.

Nobody should have an issue with that.

Cool thanks, I've always tried to avoid proxying generally but without loads of boxes it seems impossible to avoid so just trying to figure out where the line is. I could see it being fairly easy to end up in a situation where more minis have the wrong weapons than the right ones but not a fan of that.

Rest assured, no-one should have an issue with that.

Heck, in my meta no-one had issues with a guy proxying his entire army with 40k minis and loose scraps (like, LEGO Minifig motorcycle...) for about a year.
It took him that long to decide he really wanted to buy into Infinity.

IMHO there are only 2 things you should take care of while using Proxy Miniatures:
    - get the Silhouette value right
    - do not use the same miniature for different units ("this Taskmaster HRL is a Kriza Borac and the other Taskmaster HRL is a Taskmaster")

    Loadout is usually no problem.

When I play my QK, then I use for example Bandits as Al'Hawwas, new Dakinis as Alguaciles, Karakuri as Odalisques, old Dakini models as YuanYuans, Hollowmen as my Janissaries, the SuJian Combat form as Azra'il and 2 converted Devas as Sekbans - and until now, none of my confused opponents ever complained :joy:

Use whatever you want as long as they are clear. Doesn't even have to be CB as long as the base size is right. It's CBs own fault for not releasing the miniatures and loadouts.

I can't wait for 3d printing side of this game to catch up to how it is for GW stuff, not that it ever really will, too small an audience, but it is picking up!
