STEP BY STEP CRAZY SYMBIOBOMB Tags: Crackled effect, lava effect The main reason of a hobby is to have fun, to enjoy what you are doing. So I will explain you in this tutorial how to paint a Tohaa SymbioBomb. However, I will do it in a different way to the official one that my partner Daf did, because it is always fun to try new and different things. This little fellow gives us a lot of opportunities to paint, because there is a lot of chromatic choices that can be done, and allows us to try new techniques and alternative patterns. When I started painting the SymbioBomb I had very clear that I wanted to do something new and have a good time. This little Tohaa creature allowed me to go back to the times when painting miniatures was just my hobby. A time without worries or deadlines, neither was a concern to achieve top quality. When it was ok that a fade was not perfect and the important thing was to have a good’un. Because of that I want to encourage you to paint your Infinity miniatures, doesn’t matter if you cannot achieve that high level, the important thing is to keep painting step by step, because practice makes perfect. The pattern I chose to paint the SymbioBomb is a lava effect that covers all its symbiotic skin. My intention was to make something quick that looked cool. I started by priming the miniature with Vallejo’s airbrush White Primer. For this I used the white color because the next step is using a super saturated orange and starting from a white priming it makes the color pop out stronger. My choice for the base color was Orange Fluo #70.733. I applied several layers of this color but without diluting it, and waiting until each layer had dried before to apply the next one. This is a very saturated color and will come in very nicely to achieve the lava effect. In this step I made a mixture of 50% Black #70.950 and Blue Ink # 72.088 to paint the spots on the skin. I used Blue Ink because blue is a cold color that gives depth and the ink provides a satin effect to the mixture. I painted the lava effect with Yellow #70.915 between the spots, I also applied some highlights to the lips and legs so those areas stand out. Finally, to achieve more color intensity, I added a bit of Basic Skintone #70.815 to the yellow in order to apply more highlights on the same places I had highlighted before. The base color for the eyes was Black Red #70.859 and I highlighted it with Scarlett Blood #72.106. Following that, I painted a black line in the center of the eye to simulate the pupil. Then, just to finish it off I applied a white point of light. Here you can see the final pictures of the miniature, ready to hit the table. With just a few steps without worrying about doing a good fading, you can paint the miniature quickly and with a good end result.
