Others have said it better in the posts above but my statement stands. Regardless of whether or not you play nomads, it will be an interesting year for Infinity, army updates alone will make be intriguing. Indeed. Can’t wait to see what happens. It’ll be interesting for all I think. No. Just no. That way lies madness. Now I’m all for chaos and insanity but no army books for Infinity please. I get this a lot with minis I’ve painted and then the new ones are released and I want to paint them up to see the differences.
Yeah army books would suck. That sort of cycle doesn’t fit with a living ruleset, nor with CB’s extremely full writing work queue. Army books are a makework approach for bigger companies like GW to cash in with, and lead to an extremely unbalanced release cycle (and the accompanying constant power creep). Infinity’s narrative-books way of updating the fluff (and creating mileposts for change in 3-4 armies per book) is more interesting, more sustainable for a small-ish firm like CB, and less likely to lead to constant power imbalances between factions.
Diomedes and Patroclus deaths are made known on the new ITS PDF, I assume Thamirys died there too? maybe the book gives more description?
Thamirys died fighting the second wave of Combined Army against Concilum. Is name is on the list with Diomedes and Patroclus. There are also the reasons of Bixie involment in this war.
I don´t see it this extreme. There would be no rules or profiles in the books, only fluff. On release we will get an army update. We got this already with the Morats and we will get it with Bakunin. Update first, fluff later. At the moment the books feature a handfull of factions together with an episode in the all-over fluff. In an "armybook" fluff could be focus on a single faction still inside the bubble of the actual fluff line. A form of rules privelege for the newest army/sectorial already exist. Morats got super flexible firteams while keeping the boni for example. And a supercheap HI to fit in. For Bakunin I also like to see the Moiras moving in a better place, while Grrls etc. keep their status. Maybe Wildcards with a flexible count as label.
So each "armybook" would have an even more limited appeal then a larger range? Also will be outdated in a year?
@archon , I have to disagree: Exaggerating rules privilege further would not be a good thing, and that’s the most likely outcome of single armybooks. The nature of large game development is cyclical. CB does a better job balancing their release cycles to avoid imbalance than GW IMO: better long-term balance, and better match to narrative. CB also don’t encourage rules imbalance to sell models to the degree that GW do, thank god. Glad to see 3-4 army release groups keeping it that way. That leveling among newer armies at least, even with innovations in design for new forces, is better if you group them than focusing books on single forces. Doing army releases and fluff the GW way would have few benefits and some big losses, IMO. I’m glad to see yearly narrative/faction books, and lots of purely virtual changes and writing between.
GW don't even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as CB, in terms of rules release or game balance. CB indulge in a little bit of a license to bend and strain balance, but god it's a different scale to GW. This is before we even look at the actualy quality of game rules that both companies release. So yeah I totally agree with you Savnock, I'd also be really alarmed to see CB move in that direction.
The probable best approach in my opinion, is a method similar to Raveneye. A book and review of forces based on conflict campaign. Preferably with 5 to 7 linked missions that outline how the official timeline unfolded in a limited conflict. They shouldn't need to advance the linear timeline with every release, they could reflect concurrent events happening even if the books themselves are released in vastly different dates.
No. Why? You are welcome but I did not write anything about a GW-style release cycle or even mentioned GW. Armybooks are a thing in Malifaux also for example. I also would like to see a PDF that could be updated with ungoing fluff. In the actual book we have MAF, MO, KF, CJC and a little bit of NA2. I start reading with CJC, followed by MO, but I am not so eager to read MAF and KF fluff. And whatever army upgrades CB puts out is more or less tied to a realease. This is feautering an army with fresh rules to make them more attractive to buy. But I did not see something bad here. CB has to sell miniatures, if they do not, we will have no game. Simple. But anyway I think this thema goes far over the content of this news thread so I don´t see a need to discuss it here in depth. HNY btw we´ll see what CB has in the making for us to enjoy in 2023
Doesn't matter what other company does them. I'd rather spend my money on more figures. However, as mentioned them being for background, that's what this new book is. I don't think the could have enough story for each faction to get a book.
The Modiphius JDR books are on average 100-150 pages. I have translated and compiled the unit stories published on the CB blog, for my community, the pdf's by faction are on average 100 pages. You add the background of the faction that is in the CB books, you can add another 20-30 pages. There is enough stuff to make 250-300 pages books per faction like Uprising.
Personally, I do not think a "faction book" format fits or benefits Infinity, I can see the appeal for some of the community, but I think the format of timeline progression and how it affects the factions is better.
Agreed. If you want more fluff, read the fiction books or get the RPG books from modiphous. Rules and living army builder app sorts everything else out nicely
I really like that Shakush, he's nicely painted - especially that battle damage. And the paint scheme looks good :) Thanks Allah it's so much better than that Alefff beast. I'm irritated now how much more abilities and skills the Aga got for only 4 pts. CB, really? :P PozdRawiam / Greetings
In color ... the Sakush looks more Haqqislam (obvious) but still not "light TAG". I like the compact look and feel. the Hungries are much better! the angry face of the sword wielding ARO piece looks very good, but the pose is still silly Carlotta looks fine, but has too many stuff in her hands (where is the ADHL) and Moriarty is still a normal Zondcat with Nr. 4 (it should be 9 - P.118 Raveneye ;-) and Agamemnon pose is still ... interesting, but it looks very cool overall!
I could sum up most of these with "decent, but not exceptional". TAGs are the best of the bunch, although I'd really like fewer units to wield CC weapons, especially those who have very little reason to actually be in CC. Agamemnon, sure. Shakush, not so much. And I do agree that their point costs looks way off. Tomcats are ok, I guess, but I agree with people saying that old Carlota and Moriarty were more characterful. Hungries are cool, I'm sure they'll be much easier to put together than the previous ones, I'm still going with previous Morats, Hungries included ;) Kosmoflot is, again, ok, dragged down by soldier with Missile Launcher having to wave his CCW around. See what I said about TAGs.
I love so much about many of these sculpts. What incredible detail. And holy crap these paintjobs are GOOD, especially Agamemnon’s hammer. - The Shakush’s cowled head design looks even cooler painted. - Love the Hungries now that I see them painted too. Really cool dimorphism separating the two variants. - Visor-tip pose on the Kosmosoldat is COOL. Ariadna HI are so dang good these days! - Love the design on the Paracommando. Gotta agree with this though, and hope the CB sculptors/concept folks hear it: We play Infinity because of the cool futuristic design. That can include melee weapons, but they should be brandished by a minority of sculpts, not the majority. Literally half of troops besides basic line troopers waving a sword is starting to spoil things a bit. I have cut CC weapons off enough. That and ragefisting could go away and Infinity’s model line would improve a great deal. I know open poses are easier to mold, assemble, and paint but CCWs everywhere and rifles being one-handed most of the time are not the answer. CB make amazing sculpts. Really hoping this GW-ish everyone-waves-CCWs thing goes away as sculptors get over it.
really hate that TAGs have melee weapons. hungries look way better painted. Not as good/interesting as old sculpts, but still. other models look nice. But that Agamemnon posture is really dumb - how he's holding the mallet, and also mallet placement in his hand.
