Hello Guys, I always had a old-school Sphinx in my backlog and I'm quite fond of the "armored alien evil guys" theme from Onyx. Do you know where I should start with them ? I'm quite a stranger to CA, they are not much represented in my current meta (only this weirdo -but cool- guy playing shasvaasti). When taking a look in the army builder, it looks like Onyx use both morats, shas and El troops; it's quite confusing to decide wich starter packs are the best. What would be your buy order ? Your must-have ? Cherry on the cake : The Avatar mini looks terribly sexy in my eyes and if Onyx units can overlap with Vanilla CA Avatar list, I'm in.
First thing first. No Avatar in Onyx. But with Onyx you have a good set of usefull Vanilla CA troops. Start with the box, if you can manage to get the Onyx Army Pack even better Nourkias and/or a Samaritan + a Xeodron Box Overdron is my guilty pleasure A REM box, Unidron SWC box, a Noctifer ML

That is a selection of troops valid for C1. It includes both Shasvastii and Vanilla troops, some of them are in Onyx too. The pack I was speaking of includes Starter, Drones and Rodok box. The last is not so commonly used today, but it is not bad. I think it has been discontinued for a year at last, you won't find it on the CB Store, maybe some store clearence
I'd recommennd the CA starter (the one with unidrons and the rest), the unidron special weapon box, drones, 2 of the ikadron/imetron blisters, a noctifer ML, bit and kiss and greif op as your essentials. You can go into tags from there, and proxy that legate as any umbra (including nourkias). But yeah you really need those unidrons. Nexus models are a bit all over the place, consider proxying with some shas of some kind. I use 3 cadmus sculpts for mine (here they are in action) ... They're also essential imo, these days.
