I think this is a pointless discussion but recently it has come up and I would like someone to help me settle it: If I have an repeater within the ZOC of an enemy repeater, can I hack an enemy hacker through it? Assuming the hacker is in the ZOC of their repeater (as in, enemy hacker is within ZOC of their own allied repeater) is it possible?
To note, you do not need to be in ZoC of their hacker to hack through their repeater. And I believe you can if I read it right, but bear in mind you suffer firewall mods like usual cases.
For better understanding, a Barid shoots a pitcher near an Iguana, but not near any other Nomad hacker. If the Barid try to Hack the Iguana, can any hacker use the Iguana repeater AND the barid's repeater to ARO the Barid?
As the rules are written hacker can only use enemy Repeaters that are within his own Zone of Control, so no chaining Repeaters.
Another scene, A is shooting B, A is a non-hackeable unit inside B's repeater ZoC and outside B's ZoC and outside B's LoF. Could B ARO with a "Changing face" A?
I would like some clarification on this as well as it has come several times for me.The section on repeaters seems to say that hackers treat friendly repeaters as extensions of their ZoC. And if they can hack through enemy repeaters inside their ZoC wouldn't that mean that it applies to the extension of their ZoC? Hackers in the same Army List as the Repeater, and their possible allies in multiplayer games, can hack in the Zone of Control (8-inch radius) of the Repeater as if it was their own Hackers can also attempt to hack through an enemy Repeater only if the Repeater is inside their Zone of Control. I apologize if this issue has been discussed or resolved somewhere else. I couldn't find a solid answer anywhere.
Repeaters only extend your ZoC for the purposes of Hacking Area (where you can target hacking programs). They do not actually increase your ZoC. To use an enemy Repeater your hacker must have it in their ZoC (not hacking area)
Except that's wrong. You absolutely can use multiple repeaters: The top image is an invalid placement for White Noise. The bottom is a valid placement that is only valid because you're using 2 repeaters simultaneously. The good way to remember this: 'no you can't chain repeaters; the most you can do is Alice - Repeater - Bob'.
That is a very weird example, but I stand corrected :p My cotext was specific to the targeting through multiple repeaters question that comes up a lot, so I didn't comsider White Noise placement. Guess i need to read deeper before posting
Even if you ignore White Noise and look at targetting troopers through multiple repeaters: In this scenario there's no reason I can't split burst to simultaneously affect both Bob and Charlie: so, again, I'm using 2 repeaters simultaneously. But it still follows the rule 'Alice-Repeater-Target' for the Attacks. Related: I really should have linked this earlier in the conversation (when @Sabin76 reposted all of my Hacking Area diagrams they didn't get stickied for some reason).
