    The Peripheral rule states:

If the player activates a Hacking Program that grants a MOD or State to the Controller (such as, for example, Cybermask), that MOD or State will also be applied to their Peripherals.

Does this apply when you target the controller? Does that target all of the pheripherals? This seems wrong, but I think is correct RAW. I might be missing something.

Additionally, does the EVO Hacking program "Enhanced Reaction" apply in a similar way? Does that count as a MOD, is what that essentially boils down to.

Yes, ”Targeted” works that way RAW.

Sadly, “Enhanced reaction” probably doesn’t work that way because “Target gains B2 in ARO” isn’t a MOD. If “Enhanced reaction” gave “Target gains BS attack (B2 in ARO)” it would be a different thing.

    Modifiers (MOD)
In most cases, the circumstances of an action apply Modifiers (MODs) to the relevant Attribute before a roll is made. MODs, by increasing or decreasing the numeric value of an Attribute, denote the difficulty of the Skill at hand. A positive MOD applies when the Skill performed is easier than usual, and a negative MOD makes the Skill harder than usual.

The most commonly used MODs are:

Positive [+] or negative [-] Modifiers (MOD) may appear in the Unit Profiles:

    • A positive MOD [+] in round brackets next to a Special Skill, Weapon, or Equipment will be applied only to the user of that Special Skill, Weapon, or Equipment.
    • A negative MOD [-] in round brackets next to a Special Skill, Weapon, or Equipment will be applied only to enemies.
    • The value of an Attribute, Burst, Damage, Ammunition, number of uses... in round brackets next to a Special Skill, Weapon, or Equipment will be applied only when using that Special Skill, Weapon or Equipment.
    • “ReRoll” in round brackets next to a Special Skill, Weapon, or Equipment will allow the user to reroll one die from the Roll, only when using that Special Skill, Weapon, or Equipment.

Does it modify the burst? Then it is a modification. If your normal burst is 3, then having your burst be set to 2 means your burst is modified - in the same way that Gizmokit (PH=11) is a modification to the PH that the unit would roll if affected by Gizmokit if the regular PH value is different from 11.

The rule for Peripheral MED/State spread says that it anything that affects the Controller affects the Peripherals as well. That's one-directional. No, it doesn't work the other way around and it doesn't spread between Peripherals because the rule does not say it works that way.

If you put Enhanced Reaction on one of Fiddlers' remotes it will only affect that specific remote.
On the other hand, if you put Enhanced Reaction on Fiddler herself, the skill declaration will fail because Fiddler is not a Remote.

@Mahtamori you see "Enhanced reaction" as a MOD even though it is written without those important brackets? For example Gizmokit (PH=11) does have brackets and therefore is a MOD.

If "Enhanced reaction" is a MOD, then this ruling has huge in game consequences. Many REMs have REM peripherals.

Actually this sentence refers to "the player" activating a mod or state, wich seems to say only the player owning the troop can benefit from this point of the peripheral rules.

To work differently it should have been written like: "If ANY player activates a Hacking Program that grants a MOD or State to the Controller (such as, for example, Cybermask), that MOD or State will also be applied to their Peripherals." or probably better "If the Controller is affected by a Hacking Program that grants him a MOD or State(such as, for example, Cybermask), that MOD or State will also be applied to their Peripherals."

Another clue is the use of the verb "granting" instead of "affected" wich implies a positive effect on the troop.

    My 2 cents.

Not all MODs are written inside brackets. In fact, most MODs are not written in this way. (See for example this oldie but eternally relevant goodie https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threa...hanced-reaction-a-bonus.861/page-3#post-10486 )

In the case where the controller is also a REM Enhanced Reaction will spread if you target the Controller. It's as simple as that. Though there aren't many Remotes with Remote Controllers. Peacemaker is about the only one I think.

IJW called it a "bonus". Seems pretty sus that he didn't clarify that it was a mod. I'm not seeing anywhere that ( thingy = X ) counts as a mod.

Current text "Fireteam Bonuses are cumulative with each other, and with other bonuses or Burst MODs provided by other rules" (https://infinitythewiki.com/Fireteam_Bonuses) implies to me that there are ways to change the burst value without Burst MODs (i.e. what is the point of using the phrase "other bonuses" if any changes to Burst count as a MOD?)

    @TAKEZO
While what you wrote is definitely clear, what was written by CB was not, and that's the problem. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the intent, tho.

The grey box illuminates, for me, that (Thingy = X) counts as a MOD. So Enhanced Reaction, to me, seems like it trickles down to Peripherals.

Now the only question that remains to be clarified is whether Spotlight (and other hacking programs) from an opponent's hacker trickle down.

I don't actually get why it is not clear, 'the player' refers to the player who owns the Controller and Peripheral in his own Army List.

I also think it would be better if the text was like 'if the Controller goes into any State by using Hacking Programs, Peripheral also go into the State', but considering the context, I think refering 'the player' as a player who 'imposed' Targeted State is stretching to far.

It's more about the word "grant" IMO. Grant implies that the state or MOD is beneficial or wanted while "the player" is highly context sensitive and can easily be interpreted as the person that's trying to activate the hacking program. It's also a bit weird the rules refer to the player doing the activating here - the player isn't the game entity performing the hacking programs and the established game terminology for executing a skill is "perform" or "execute" where as "activate" is what you do with a unit at the start of an order.
But I guess this does mean that a MOD or state that is gained from scenario will not be shared unless the peripheral itself qualifies.

Oh, and Spanish rules have the same minor weirdness.
Funny how I'm slowly learning Spanish because of cross-referencing rules...
