So, looks like ITS14 rules has given Tohaa its first remote. Sort of. What do you pople make of it? Are you eager to try it? For me the biggest drawback is the huge base of the model at S4, I cannot even proxy it with a Symbiobeast :p Also, at CD 10 and WILL 12 it won't be winning lots of FtF rolls even with the help of Markmanship. Nor do we need a cheap Baggage, our loyal Chaksa Auxiliars cover that role way better because they are cheaper and carry a deadly Dam15 HFT. On the other hand, with the Traktor Mul we get a Reapater that doesn't need to be deployed (unlike the Sukeul's Repeater).
It's basically bs13 though, and it has a repeater, tac aware and it's a specialist. It is repairable for test run. I can see it being useful.
To me it is a wasted opportunity to give us a FO Kauuri with a Repeater. Make them remotes if you need to to fit the season bonus.
It's lets you do engineering classified a bit easier I guess? Still not worth it in vanilla especially when you compare it to what you're replacing it with
I've got some time for it, I think. The profile in a vacuum absolutely sucks, but it's not in a vacuum - the bonuses to FO remotes this season are obscenely strong.
They're strong when you actually want to use them. I really don't think Tohaa (who's main selling point is order efficiency) wants to waste orders on a 4-4 bot instead of on their fireteams (even if the bot gets a free order). (This is not a linkable Redfury that can duo with an Asawira )
Allows you to get Test Run, gives you a shot at FO classifieds by Turn 3 with no drain on the rest of your order pool. Seems well worth the 17 points and a troop slot. A Zero FO isn’t a Hac Tao Hacker. Still useful, especially if you have no other tool like it.
The argument that it is easier to get Test Run seems like an admission that this unit will just get shot, and then you can spend orders to bring it back up. I think I would rather just take a Kauuri for less, and have it walk into a mine if I am that desperate to get Test Run. In the non-vacuum of Tohaa they still absolutely suck. Tohaa do not have the ubiquitous hackers to really take advantage of the repeater, and on a remote with 4-4 movement and a 55mm base it is going to be difficult to get it up to a place where it is useful for Tohaa at all. It has ECM (hacker -3) for the season but at WIP 12 and Zero BTS this bonus does not come close to balancing the out the weakness of taking a hackable unit. BS 10 it is still only shooting 1 better than than most Tohaa gunfighters, and only if the target is in cover. No but you can get 3 Zero FOs for the cost of one Hack Tao Hacker with 2 points to spare. I could see this being an argument if this was a less expensive but worse version of a unit only a few armies could take, instead of paying more for an objectively worse version of a unit nearly every army can take.
Don't be a negative Nancy, put your thinking hat on for a sec. Say you're at an event that's running countermeasures or highly classified (maybe both?!). Would you rather have a repeater for spotlight on something you can repair for multiple classified grabs or nothing?
