Maybe it's the missions. I think there should be a few more that don't require specialists. There's 20 missions. 11 Needs specialists to do something for VP. 6 missions that have 2 or more Classified Objectives. The thing that Nomads has over most others is specialists. They have all of them in large numbers, cheap-ish, good AVA, and sometimes with special rules like infiltration skills, combat jump etc. Even with the special cards, they have just about everything. CoC doesn't matter because it's on cards that includes other things they do have. They also have many troops that can do many of the cards. For example Evader: HI, Veteran, Engineer, D-Charges, Wildcats: MI, Veteran, Engineer, Hacker, Visor, D-Charges. For example (using vanilla Nomads and Yu Jing for comparison. Includes all profiles that include the tag) Doctors: Nomads 7, Yu Jing 1 (AVA1, this is in all the sectorals as well) Engineers: Nomads 19, Yu Jing 12 Specialist Operative: Nomads 31, Yu Jing 17 Hackers: I'm not even going to count hackers. So Nomads can accomplish most of those missions but they also have the ability to do the other missions as well.
But still AVA 1 to each. ISS also only has her as the Engineer. Kill her and that's two specialists gone. Nomads have AVA1 Daktaris, AVA2 Tomcats, AVA1 Reverend Healer. Cheap, mid tier, expensive.
A while back I worked out these kinds of things, albeit by sectorial. The average sectorial had 6 Hackers. Bakunin had 7, while Corregidor and Tunguska each had 10. These numbers may have changed since I worked this out.
41 hackers in vanilla Nomads. Again that's all of the profiles that have a hacker of some type. 26 in Yu Jing.
I counted the Specialist profiles in NCA on a hunch; 2 Doctors, 1 Engineer, 6 Forward Observers, 2 Paramedics, 1 Chain of Command, 5 Specialist Operatives, plus the Crabbot, And 12 Hackers. Of course only a few of each are actually useful (you can get all of them into links at least), with the weird exception of the Hackers.
A simple count if every hacker. Some troops have multiple hackers with different weapons or different types of hackers. Obviously it's more nuanced than that.
The number available isn't a huge deal; it's how good they are. The addition of Jazz changed Corregidor into arguably the best hacking sectorial in the game and she's just 1 model.
CJC was always the brawling Nomad faction, that aspect is mostly diluted these days. They should be practical and relatively direct. Hard working and hard fighting. But faction identify died in N3 and only continues to decrease with each wave of name character, merc cr roadies from other games, and CB being unwilling to place design limits on anyone but PanO.
Since PS mentioned this it keeps getting brought up, but I do not understand what it is saying about Corregidor. What does it mean to be the "brawling" faction?
Direct action, get in, shoot the enemy up. Nothing super tricky. CJC was always the straightforward (compared toother nomads) combat focused ship.
I wouldn't take what PS says seriously, he says whatever makes CB's design decisions look good in the moment. Ask him to explain why Corregidor now has HD+ and you'll get a completely different answer.
Because Jazz is a special character and this is her background, I thought it was quite obvious. Regardless, it is a big assumption that all Corregidor lists include Jazz (queue in the typical response "all competitive do/ should") and a bigger assumption that Jazz fundamentally changes Corregidor, if Jazz is rendered inoperative on first turn (or simply is not included) the Corregidor list will simply use its typical approach of brute forcing a solution to the problem of completing the mission.
Jazz does fundamentally change Corregidor. If you don't understand how access to HD+ on a platform like that when you have an amazing repeater network changes things, then you're not assessing the game soberly. If they gave Corregidor a special character with Chain of Command, that would *also* fundamentally change the faction. Their background is irrelevant when we're discussing the gameplay consequences; Corregidor had always been engineered without HD+, and now that it has it, it didn't take any tradeoffs for that gain. This is where the title of this thread comes in. I haven't played against a Corregidor list without Jazz in years.
