No harm done. I'm not going to kvetch until we get the sectorial and it'll turn out it's not interesting. I'm hoping for something flexible, like SAA but with higher tech level.
After watching The Raid, Varuna should definitely get some inspiration and get some SWAT-esque cops to fulfill it's counterterrorism role. I mean, if Varuna is to represent Southeast Asia/Oceania, it's gotta represent one of the most brutal and awesome martial arts movie to come out of that region. I'm thinking these guys are LI with MOV 4-4, CC22, BS12, PH12, WP13, ARM2, BTS3. They get Advanced Deployment L2 or Mechanized, MA3, Sixth Sense Level 2 and V:Dogged. As for equipment, they can choose from basic weapons of BSG, Combi and SMG. 1.5 SWC choice of a Spitfire. Paramedic as a specialist option. Their close combat weapon should be a Shock CCW or maybe DA CCW. The real question I have is if they should also get Eclipe Smoke to represent their kicking-in-doors vibe that a SWAT team should have; if so then those with an Eclipse profile should add on 0.5 SWC. I'm just spit balling here. I personally just want to see PanO actually get some decent CC options.
I think anything that has the cutter, croc men and BS13 Mimetism HMGs at 1 SWC is going to be pretty Flexible in its builds. I mean Im curious to see which MO units they feed into the list (Im almost positive they will have some) but for the most part Varuna may end out being an unholy mash of NCA and ASA
Well it's kind of a weird example and it may just be a bug with Army6 but it does annoy me that Druze in QK have different weapons to Druze in DBS. Now that's a cross-factional thing so different circumstances to the parent army not getting the sectorial loadouts but you never know. But if they do that they'd have set the prescendent us whiny NCA players would need to demand that the sectorial gets a Haris profile on the Bolts and CB may not be ready for that level of whining so soon after YJ-Tearfest 2018. Apart from the Orcs, the looks of the Varuna troopers don't really excite me at all. If they resculpt the Cutter to look less like Roidrage: The TAG then that'd be a different story. Having complained about how silly the Cutter looks, I would still totally preorder the shit out of a Maghariba guard style crab TAG. I don't care how silly it looks. It's a giant shiny robot crab that may or may not fire death lasers. All arguments against it are invalid.
Oh, there is a lot of examples of Sectorial-only profiles: Bagh-mari HMG lt is one of them. Kempeitai CoC too. As for the Cutter, I don't think this will look like a crab. We are PanO. We don't make crazy things, we let this for Nomads and wait to see it overdrive and then explode. No, we make things that works and that are reliable. I don't think we will see OM in Varuna, except maybe for the Domini Canos, because I don't see why. Hospitaller could, in fact, be present in all of our sectorials but will only in Svalarheima. Montesa are in the ASA for obvious reasons, and Teutons belongs to Paradiso. As Santiago are naval units but not in the sea meaning, they won't be there. I think if we could see Santiagos in another sectorial, it would be in the Solar one along with KotHS. But we know very few, in fact, about Varuna when you compare to the other incoming sectorials because there is only four of them in Vanilla (if we put Fusiliers in) and we know more about the troops belonging to Svalarheima than about the Varuna ones.
I find Crabbot exactly in the same line of design as any of our REM (except the Auxbot). And it was designed in desperate time when Umbras were killing our Stingray 3 pilots one after another. Cutter aren't machines of desperate times. They are the pinacle of the PanO tech.
To be perfectly honest, I stopped being concerned about fluff based justifications for sculpts when they introduced the atrocity that is the Tech-bee model or more suicide squad 'homages'. They can use any justification they want as long as I get a S7-S8 robotic murderous crustacean.
I think this is the first time I've ever heard anyone complain about the Cutter sculpt. Personally, I hope it's not resculpted.
It's the legs to torso ratio. For some reason it doesn't bother me on the Squalo but it's really eye-catching and silly looking to me on the Cutter. Someone skipped leg-day for like 20 years... edit: But sadly yes, I doubt it will be re-sculpted. Given they have a bootleg with the torso in it and the current cutter features prominently in various art.
lol I don't think TAGs need to have realistic physique. And in the case of myomer bundles vs whatever system is being used for the torso rotation it makes some sense that they are differently proportioned. But, seriously, does anyone else have any idea why we might expect MO units in Varuna?
? You mean the way NCA has Black Friars or about actual Knight addition ? Afaik there are not direct ties of any Order to Varuna. On a gameplay level which one would fill any of open slots in Varuna ? Teutons ? KotHS ? Teutons in theory could get rework and fill some unknown (for now) niche in Varuna...
No, I don't see why we would. Except if the Santiago HQ is based in Varuna, there is nothing that calls for MO as much as I know.
I could see KotHS fitting, or Santiagos, both are fairly heavily described as guarding civilians and monuments. Also, MO is fare more heavily integrated into PanO than just being MO. The afformentioned Black Friars in NCA Hospitallers are all but confirmed for Svalarheima Montessa's in acontecimento Makes sense to me that Varuna will have some MO presence, even if its not a full order. Father Knights, Order Seargents, Magisters or Black Friars would all make for interesting additions
KotHS are mostly described as guards of relics on old Earth, does Varuna has anything like that ? Santiagos in theory could fit it (on a stretch), but I find it bit hard to justify from "gameplay" perspective, what role would they fit (which is not occupiad by ORCs desperatly trying to show off and justify their own existence) ?
To my mind, Santiagos are the obvious candidates given that they're described as specialists at boarding operations, etc. A unit of heavy infantry dedicated to breaching and boarding operations makes a lot of sense given what (little) we know of the character of the Varuna sectorial thus far. I think some of you are imagining what Varuna is going to give us as all ocean-oriented, but there's no reason to believe that'll be the case. To the extent that the sectorial really is Pan-O's anti-terrorism force and it operates off-planet, it makes perfect sense for them to have troops whose specialties do not involve snorkeling. The "CC capable HI that can camp on objectives with its 360 degree visor" role? You want redundant HI, see ORCs in a sectorial where Aquila are available. "So what do you do?" "I'm tough and I shoot things...less well than you...but I'm cheap(er)!" *emo cry face*
