The fireteam update has dropped, so my buddy has decided to pay me a visit tomorrow to play our first game within this new paradigm. The scenario will be determined tomorrow, so we agreed to bring a list that should cover several eventualities. My buddy is also still fairly new to Infinity, so we're both playing vanilla and are not exactly maxing out our lists here. I'll be bringing my YJ and he's going with Haqqislam.

Vanilla YJ has been blessed (likely by the grace of the emperor) with some amazing DUO options and, while there is quite a lot to unpack, I've settled on this one for our upcoming game:

MÓWÁNG (NCO) MULTI Rifle, Flammenspeer / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 43)
BÀO TROOP MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, CC Weapon. (1.5 | 29)

These bad boys should do fairly well in tandem. One of the Mowang's most glaring weaknesses is 4-4 MOV without any form of FD coupled with short-mid range weapons. NCO balances out this order inefficiency fairly nicely, but even then he will often find himself either outranged or outgeared at a critical junction. Now, the Bao can discover and clear whatever the Mowang can't deal with fairly reliably from behind smoke, while the Mowang moves along and gets closer to where he wants to be. The Bao should also come in handy against that inevitable Fiday.

One thing to remember in a setup like this is that NCO orders spent in a fire team will automatically make the NCO the fireteam leader for that order!

Anyway, here is the entire list:

    ──────────────────────────────────────────────────
    GROUP 1[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]10
DĀOYĪNG (Lieutenant [+1 Order], Hacker, Hacking Device) Boarding Shotgun ( ) / Breaker Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 30)
PHEASANT IMPERIAL AGENT (Hacker, Killer Hacking Device) Combi Rifle, E/Mitter ( ) / Breaker Pistol, PARA CC Weapon(-6). (0 | 28)
    KOKRAM (Forward Deployment [+8"], Minelayer) Heavy Shotgun, E/Mitter, E/M Mines ( | Deployable Repeater) / Heavy Pistol(+1B), CC Weapon. (0 | 41)
MÓWÁNG (NCO) MULTI Rifle, Flammenspeer / Heavy Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 43)
BÀO TROOP MULTI Sniper Rifle / Pistol, CC Weapon. (1.5 | 29)
GŬILÁNG (Minelayer) Boarding Shotgun, Shock Mines ( | Deployable Repeater) / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0.5 | 27)
    SON-BAE Yaókòng Missile Launcher / PARA CC Weapon(-3). (1.5 | 16)
WÈIBĪNG Yaókòng Combi Rifle, Flash Pulse / PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0 | 15)
    LÓNG YÁ (Minelayer) Panzerfaust(+1B), Flammenspeer(+1B), Submachine Gun, AP Mines / PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0.5 | 17)
    LÓNG YÁ (Minelayer) Panzerfaust(+1B), Flammenspeer(+1B), Submachine Gun, AP Mines / PARA CC Weapon(-3). (0.5 | 17)
    GROUP 2[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]3 [IMG]2 [IMG]3
LIBERTO (Minelayer) Light Shotgun, Shock Mines / Pistol, CC Weapon. (1 | 8)
SHAOLIN Chain Rifle, Smoke Grenades / Pistol, Shock CC Weapon. (0 | 5)
CELESTIAL GUARD Monitor Combi Rifle, Smoke Grenade Launcher / CC Weapon, Pistol. (0.5 | 13)
KUANG SHI Chain Rifle / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 5)
KUANG SHI Chain Rifle / Pistol, CC Weapon. (0 | 5)
    6 SWC | 299 Points
    Open in Infinity Army

The idea is to enable the duo as often as possible and have the guided ML REM as a backup threat. Daoying LT can provide Spotlight support or feed LT orders to the Mowang and Kokram.
The Pheasant acts as a safeguard and hacker removal. Both should have solid repeater coverage and can double as WIP 14 specialists with marker state in a pinch.

Kokram, Guilang, two Long Ya and the Liberto will try to establish a beachhead towards the objective and/or keep the enemy 1st turn in check as best as possible.

The FO REM is another vector for targeted state for the ML REM. It's also a decent specialist and has some defensive utility through its repeater and flash pulse.

CG 2 is there mainly for smoke fuel and defensive potential. With a maximum of 5 orders, the Shaolin can cover a lot of ground to put a template where the Bao needs it, maybe even engage things in CC in later turns. The CG monitor acts as smoke redundancy in case the Shaolin gets taken out.

I'll post a short summary of how things went tomorrow night. Please feel free to leave comments, suggestions etc.

Let us know how it goes.

The Mowang+Bao seems a little strange to me since you are probably going to be moving closer with the Mowang. Especially if he only has a multi-rifle, but the Bao has a long range weapon. I'd flip things around a bit. Spitfire Mowang+Zuyong TA Tinbot. You use the Tac Aware first then the NCO. Then the Tinbot giving an extra level of protection.

We ended up playing domination and the game ended in a draw. I made some stupid mistakes along the way, getting my Daoying needlessly killed by placing a repeater too close to Leila Sharif. The Mowang/Bao combo worked out fairly nicely, at it allowed me to push both of them out of the DZ and up the right flank to contest the opponent's right quadrant and keep his Fiday in check. My Mowang eventually died to failing 3/3 ARM rolls on 9s, which was annoying. The Bao died one turn later to a rampaging Tarik (DAM 16!) Spitfire, but he had already done his job at that point.

I agree it looks awkward but it didn't actually play out that way. You can only shoot with one of the two per order anyway, so they don't always need to be in perfect range bands all the time. The added movement efficiency allowed me to give the Bao the angles he needed, while the Mowang could make his way up the board at the same time. Once there, I used up his NCO orders to deal with stuff in shorter ranges.

The Spitfire loadout is probably better overall, but I'm a stickler for WYSIWYG on my miniatures, so I keep trying to make the MR work. It's also a lot leaner in points and SWC. The TinBot Zuyong is a fantastic Duo option, but it occupies a different niche to the Bao. Against my opponent's Haqqislam force, I really wanted that long range MSV 2 threat and a little something for the Fiday.

Has anyone else tried some of the new Duos? I keep thinking a combo of Zuyong Tinbot with Pheasant Hacker has got to be pretty good. Or the Shang Ji APHMG.

Best buddies of everyone are arguably Zuyong TinBot Tactical Awareness and Motorized Bounty Hunter.

MBH can benefit from an order spent in duo link then leave with its own Irregular Order. It works best with high movement as another MBH, Su-Jian or a TacAwareness (Zuyong or Phaesant).

Phaesant TacAwareness works with virtually anyone, but I like the hacker profiles best. It works well with Zuyong TA TinBot or Jujak TinBot.

Jujak Engineer is a good buddy for Guijia and Mowang.

    My personal favourites are:
    - Su-Jian + MBH
    - Mowang + Zuyong TA Tinbot
    - Phaesant Hacker + Zuyong TA Tinbot
