Hey guys, Been thinking about starting O-12 because the space cops vibe and the miniatures appeal to me ;) I'm playing Bahram, Vanilla Haqqislam, Morat and Onyx and looking for a somewhat different play experience. I've started looking at the profiles but I'm not yet sure what is their "thing", what would you say describe best the faction and their strength/weakness and what makes you come back to O-12. My friends play : - Aleph and Nomads - Nomads, Pano, Ariadna and JSA I'd rather play an unrepresented faction so if not O-12 that leaves Yu Jing maybe.
For me 0-12 is a mash up of Nomad and Pano. Omega is the child of Kriza+Swiss Guard Cyberghost is interventors light Gangbusters and Sirius are Moran Light, they took ad repeaters and koalas and sorta split it up between two units Epsilons are Nisse Gamma is a Kriza light Beta Troopers are probably Hollowmen + Varangians provide smoke access that Pano misses Lynx and Razors are of course very similar to Croc men and Spektrs It's not one for one, and 0-12 has some more unique tools, such as bronzes, and blue coats. But overall the feel to me is Pano light + Nomad tricks.
That is a good breakdown. In addition, Deltas are a mix of Tomcats and Akalis, and Raptors and discount Guarda. They also have the unique Crushers and powerful Aleph pieces. You could focus on the large variety of Forward deployment pieces for pressure. It also feels like they have to rely on their plethora of multiweapons to do most of there armor busting.
They really need their second sectorial to add more unique stuff and give them more of their own identity so as they can be described as more than a mash up of two other factions.
Thanks for the help guys, still studying the profiles but i like what i see so far. Midfield presence looks interesting. I'll come back when i think i have an handle on things ;)
Razors are invaluable. also, the plasma lynx can do a reasonable impression of a noctifier on short range bands especially if you manage to stack ARO's. it can really throw your opponent off.
Congrats! Could you go into more detail on what teams you used for your tournament and how you played them? Edit: oh wow, Epsilons can now join full core links. Thats such a big boon for the sectorial.
I find list building with O-12 pretty different to other armies I play. They have so many decent units in the 12-13pt rangeband that I sometimes struggle to fitt all the key pieces I want in a given list. Katherine Cho, Bluecoats, Raveneye, Varangians and Monstruckers are all superb pieces, and above them in the low-20s you have even more: gangbusters, cyberghosts, sirius, dakinis, etc. What all this means is thatyou tend to 'go wide' in your list building; there's no Imetrons, Taighas, netrods, etc here, where you get insane value for a pittance and can therefore go crazy on the big toys... Combine this characteristic with the excellent midfield presence the faction has, and I find O-12 to be an army that's very resilient to shock losses due to most of your units being low-key threats in their own right. Sure, you may lost your Omega HMG and Andromeda on turn one, but you still have that hidden plasma lynx, or that trench-hammer varangian, or that sirius who offers some great hacking play through its repeater, or, or, or. ... O-12 specialise in aggressive specialists: Gangbuster KHDs, Sirius, Andromeda, Razor, Casanova (who caught a great buff) and my MVP, the plasma Lynx, all combine to offer some really nice benefits: 1) a lot of FD and infiltration to make you very order efficient, 2) a lot of blocking potential (madtraps, guard attacks, riotstoppers, mines, high BS for f2f rolls, sacrificial sync'd bots who also offer hacking aros, and a short-range 0swc noctifer with the Lynx) to reduce your opponent's order efficiency, and 3) a lot of list efficiency because they're pulling double duty as specialists and killers. Unfortunately I think O-12 gained very little with their duos compared to most other vanilla factions; the Bronze is niche but useful, and Miranda plus a Varangian is quite cute, but this pales into insignificance compared to YJ or Haq options that opened up with the fireteams update. In fact the Bronze is the only native O-12 unit to get access to duos; everything else is generic bounty hunters and such.
Thanks for the interesting writeup! I missed the buff Casanova caught. I recently looked at his profile and was very pleasantly surprised, as I had remembered him to be rather lackluster. But I don't remember his old profile well enough to know what changed. Also, could you share a list that has worked well for you?
Hey burlesford, I'm pretty new to O12 myself dude, so the answer is not really! :D I'm playing them in my next local league, but at the moment I've never taken them to a competitive game of any kind, and until recently they've been loitering in my unpainted box of doom. Now that painting's underway I have much more reason to play them, and have been trying to figure out how I think they fit together at the listbuilding stage.
