Hi, this is a really basic question but, shooting a troop inside a smoke template puts a -6 modifier to BS, right?
I`ve seen a couple of battle reports on youtube and they say it`s -3... can`t find the reason in the rules

    Thanks

Hmm, hard to say without example. Maybe they apply +3BS MOD (range/fireteam/etc) and -6BS for Zero-V together to speed up process?
Or an MSV1-trooper that shoots into smoke has Sixth Senses and ARO trooper shoots back (with -6MOD for shooting into Zero-V), but now an MSV-trooper is a target of attack from Zero-V as well (since we apply all mods at resolution step) and can ignore -6MOD (so there would be cover/range mod left)?
Or these youtubers just consider Smoke Template as a Poor Visibility Zone instead of Zero-V Zone and turn -6 MOD into -3 MOD for MSV1

Thanks for answering, I'll rephrase my question... with an example
A troop withMSV1 with BS 12 in +0 range shoots a troop inside a smoke template without cover... this troop will hit on 6 or less, right?

BS 9, the MSV1 reduces Poor Visibility mods from -6 to -3.

So the confusion may come from when the YouTube video was made. Prior to a FAQ, in N4, MSV1 through smoke shot at -6. After the FAQ, like @Triumph states, it is now at -3.

But that's only if a shooter is a target of a BS attack as well, right?

Yes it is. You only treat smoke as a poor vis zone if you are the target of a BS Attack otherwise it's a Zero Vis Zone which MSV does nothing with the penalties for.

Incorrect smoke is a Zero Vis zone which MSV doesn't reduce penalties for. You need to be the target of a BS Attack to treat it as a Poor Vis Zone then you get to reduce the penalties

I think I'm confused again... so
If the target shoots back the smoke becomes a poor visibility zone?, what if the target dodges? it remains a zero visibility zone (giving a -6 to BS?)... also where are these rulings, I can`t find that on the wiki
    Thanks in advance

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think, according to the FAQ that the smoke becomes a poor visibility zone for the trooper who is attacked, but not for the attacker who will be applying a -6, right?

You are wrong. That line you are quoting then interacts with the FAQ for either trooper that winds up getting shot at.

"Any Trooper who is the target of a BS
Attack into, through, or out of a Zero
Visibility Zone treats the Zero Visibility
Zone as a Poor Visibility Zone when
    drawing LoF to the attacker"

The underlying problem here is that the wiki hasn't been updated with the latest FAQ even though the FAQ changes the rules in a bunch of really fundamental ways. So @gapz01 you're quite right to have been confused. The only way to check the rules right now is to check both the wiki and the FAQ, unfortunately.

IJW made a RAW ruling (“clarification”) on this. -6 if target doesn’t shoot back and -3 if it does.

And yes, it doesn’t make any sense logically and will probably get reversed (look what happened to previous IJWs provisional rulings when the latest faq dropped) when new faq arrives when Hellois gets better.

You are ofc free to play with your own rules that completely or partially disregard the previous faq or IJW rulings.
