Hello all I'm looking to get a Varuna Army commissioned soon (see my other post on the scheme https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/varuna-scheme-concept-project-snake-eater.41082/#post-433192) and I've got one question for all the Varuna players out there. What profiles do you seem to be reaching for as duplicates in lists. Essentially which models if I want to have duplicates of if I wanted a wysiwyg army on the table?
Tricky timing, because preferences are reshuffling right now due to the big change in link rules. Possibly Kamau... They're still a good Haris option, and are likely to be either part of a Core, or all of a Core. Also the Machinist. The VIRD Machinist is a very good link filler and general utility supporter, and I max AVA on them when I still build Varuna lists. Lastly, a 2nd box of REMs. You may want max AVA on Fugazi, then also a Clipper and/or Pathfinder.
I will add the subfusil+light rocket launcher helots, at least a couple, it is the profile I saw more on table (usually 3 of them), but as @barakiel said it depends a lot... and the fireteam changes have made past experiences not so good advisors. I will say that a lot of players have only the Helots box, and if they want to play 3 LRL they just do using "proxies", it would be strange if some will complain about. And helots will be there no matter the fireteams rules XD hehe. REMS (fugazzi) are a thing usually players have as repeated model, but in this case, remember you will have 4 options to build it. I know players which magnetize the pieces so they can have fugazzi, hmg RT, etc, others only do "that RT" as "fugazzi" when needed or viceversa. Even I know players who have models from other factions, making easy to "have different" models with same options. In this particular case take a look to the "store".
Certainly double on Helots if you think you might use them. Speaking personally, I haven't used a single Helot this edition, and I don't intend to... An Irregular unit with no active turn application, no utility (like smoke tossing) and no Impetuous Order whose entire role is to die is a pretty hard sell when you're capped at 15 bodies. Same reason I rarely see Warcors anymore.
