Hey everyone, does going into suppression Fire generate an ARO? I assume it would but does the minus three still happen? Also would the unit who went into suppression get to return fire? Thanks in advance for the advice.
The phrase "Suppressive Fire" has three distinct meanings in the rules. 1. Suppressive Fire is a weapon Trait. 2. Suppressive Fire is an Entire Order Skill which has the Effect of putting the user into the Suppressive Fire State. 3. Suppressive Fire is a State which has the Effect of giving the trooper a new weapon profile which has new rangebands, burst 3, and applies a -3, and is only useable in ARO. (4. Suppressive Fire is also often used as a shorthand for "ARO with BS Attack Skill using the SF Mode profile of my weapon.) Yup, it's not great writing. So, when you declare (2), the Entire Order skill, you do generate AROs (as with any other skill declaration) and you don't get to shoot in the same order, all you get to do is enter the Suppressive Fire State.
Yes, as an Entire Order skill, it generate ARO. No, the -3 does not apply for many reason one being that it only applies in FtF Rolls (and in this case here the opponent gets a free Normal Roll hits on you). The unit that went in suppression does not return fire with that Order.
Thanks as always, these replies answer the question perfectly. This was basically the decision we came to during the game but I always like to double check.
