Eh, they've added framework where they can buff specific fireteams with individual bonus rules and I'm pretty interested to see where that goes.

They could add a special bonus to give Fusiliers +3 Burst for no reason, or an all Domaru team could gain the Albedo rule, or the Onyx TAG Haris could gain firewall... There's alot of possibilities for this to develop.

The wording of the Hungries Fireteam rule implies that Impetuous may no longer be suppressed in a Fireteam

That is a great new option that hopefully shall allow some of the weaker sectorials more power. I like!

I think there needs to be a shift of perception from a pure Fireteam being a "Vanguard" or "Yaogat" Fireteam, to bring a "Morat" or "Tarlok" oe "Armoured" Fireteam.

    img_4_1648057221515.jpg

So nuMorats effectively have 7 "Pure" Fireteams to choose from, they also have the special rule that Wildcards count as "Pure" when they're in a Morat or Tarlok Fireteam, but not in the other 5 types.

Edit: Not quite, a Morat team can still count as mixed if it includes troopers like the Kyosot that don't have the [MORAT] keyword, really interesting!

Looking at what units still count as pure even when mixed in morats they actually got buffed. You can put that B+1 MSR Yaogat in vanguard core and get BS 15 MSV2 B4 MSR for less than 100 points now.
Everything will be certain tommorow when we get to see what pure compositions other sectorials have, and what funky fireteam can we get. (Liang Kai +4 Shaolin becoming regular with Jin Qo wildcard counting as pure would be my dream for WB)

Not sure I see the nerf based on the Morat fireteams - looks like a bit more flexibility and some order efficiency in MAF, anyway (don't claim to be a MAF expert, but a lot of what I see there looks pretty advantageous). The little flavor bonuses might amount to something in some cases, too. The discover bonus at a three-man also seems to be designed to hurt camo spam vanilla lists, but don't know if that'll be enough.

    Wait and see, I suppose.

I'm feeling fairly positive about it all. As @Triumph said, there's going to be some interesting things that can make some fireteams unique even if whatever they get is situational.

Something I'm confused on though in the examples for Morats, they can mix whatever they want? It's just not say, Vanguard+Wildcard, it can be Vanguard+Yaogat+Wildcard+Kaitok?

Unless they give them a defense against being spotlighted through a wall or from the top of a building, no point. Vanilla doesn't have to FtF fireteams or deal with any of their bonuses.

Look we both know the hacking game needs a total rework because it's got major problems right now but I don't think that means we should throw out a positive expansion on fireteam rules.

So I can see how some of this can be used for like Tohaa and SP, 0-Core, unlimited Triad/Enomotarchos fireteam, unlimited? Duo. Triad Fireteam being the equivalent to the Tarlok fireteam.

I mean no, but it means I'm still not gonna bother playing tournaments I gotta leave my house for until they deal with that.

I don't disagree. I've played since late N1, and this is (far and away) my least favorite edition. I was already exhausted by pitchers being lobbed into my DZ at the Top of Turn 1 last edition, and that was nowhere near as prevalent or obnoxious. Now that it's the top build that I'm seeing everywhere, it's taken away a lot of my desire to compete.

But it's also only one set mechanic that were badly tuned. There's still a lot of good stuff happening. So I try to be receptive to the positive changes, since they may indicate a positive trajectory for the future.

On the broader topic, I'm excited to see the thematic link bonuses that might be handed out. Even if none of them are game breaking, I think they are tremendous fun for theme and immersion. If they do bring some unique or powerful rules, they could really open up list building in some fun ways.

I think Morats were kind of a bad example for them to use for Fireteams. They don't seem to be the average, considering all of their fireteams gain the same bonus.

The general fireteam bonuses were what i was expecting. I was not expecting factions to have different fire team allowances or cool thematic link bonuses for certain link. They made it better and more fun. Well done.

I hope they make sure they are not too over the top. But might make you consider taking them more.

Edit: I also hope it changes by sectoral too. Right now a Zhanshi fire team in White Banner is the same as a Invincible Army.

On the one hand it all sounds very interesting and possibly inspiring.
On the other, as I think about trying to explain the already complicated fireteam rules to others, with like extra two layers on top...
...switching to CodeOne seems increasingly attractive.

Yeah, the one thing I was hoping for was a streamlining. Instead I got the opposite.

I mean as an annexe to the rules you and your gaming group can just ignore them or play vanilla. I understand the feeling but I’m going to wait and them once released. Complexity is a turn off, the game is already com-lex for my old brain.

We'll see tomorrow, but we can imagine an "Invincible" label that Zhanshi won't have, allowing only mixed FT with them in IA.
