Well, I sometimes have games where my minis feel like they armoured in paper, are shooting rocks and fight with blunt scissors.

Well there are quite a few models with Tactical Rocks in the game. I don't think I've yet seen a model with paper? I guess the Dragon Lady's fan could count in a pinch. As for scissors, I don't think I've seen a single model with a pair of scissors but there are lots of models with swords which cut just as well.

Thanks for the serious response, all those are a paper-rock scenario, I'm looking for the scissors too.

The problem is the scissors is just the normal stuff. They are not hard counter. Pounds for pounds, scissors beat paper because paper paid for something that is of no use against scissor.

Msv3 is strong against camo. Camo is strong against line troopers. Line troopers are good against MSV3 because they didn't bloat themselves with that skill.

edit: basically, i'm lost at finding a circle of which is better in terms of units.

Maybe it would be easier in terms of faction. Find what faction (A) beats ariadna camo spam and what (B) gets beaten by it. Then hope those 2 factions vs each other are in the correct sequence (that B beats A).

I guess could be applied to tactics too.
    Mono beats TAG easily.
Mono is countered by BS attacks.
    TAG easily wins BS fights.
So penthesilea warband beats avatar tag. Avatar beats a heavy hitter (Like a BS14 Hsien HI). Hsien HI beats penthesilea WB.
But then, a TAG itself usually also wins a firefight against a biker (as much as a HI)... so really what we have is that whoever dictates the terms of engagement (ie. Active Player) wins.

Penny < TAG < Hsien < Penny is fair but how many rock paper scissors can we name in the game.

You almost got one, MSV < Camo < White Noise < MSV

I think it's only a slight exaggeration to call Marker State that annoying "gun" that beats everything in little kid RPS games.

The Rock-Paper-Scissor analogy is not a literal one. What it means is that a list can be good at countering one or two of the game gimicks, but rarely ALL of them with the same effectiveness. Hence, Rock-Paper-Scissor. Neither of the three options can beat all of the others.

I think literal is the wrong word here; lizard, spock helps this analogy. But, I'm purposefully asking about hard counters and relationships in the game. It would behoove CB to always be cognizant of these elements and strive to create more of these fully fledged relationships. They are scalable, add depth, and make balancing the game easier.

  12. Without any interest in entering into controversy, just for me to understand what you wanted to say.

    With this phrase....
...are you trying to say that CB is unaware of these «relationships» between troops?

Because if that's the case, I can tell you that CB knows all about those «relationships», the first time I heard a CB staff member talk about them was in the good old days of N1 (although it was never called N1).

perhaps cognizant isn't accurate enough, being aware of the existence of a thing doesn't seem to be enough, but putting a more active focus on these things, perhaps is the better way of looking at it.

  14. If in N1 they deliberately created and implemented those «relationships» in the game... I personally would find it hard to believe that three revisions of the game later, they don't continue to do so and that the «relationships» arise spontaneously.
