As a commentary/resolution suggestion to https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/throwing-drop-bears-as-a-zoc-aro-targetless.40388/ Targetless This weapon utilizes a Special Ammunition capable of firing without designating an enemy as a target. In the Reactive Turn, LoF to the Active Trooper is required. Or, alternatively, add a more generalised rule under https://infinitythewiki.com/Trooper_Activation#ARO:_Automatic_Reaction_Order For example "ARO skills that require LOF but do not target troopers still require LOF to the Active Trooper" Reasoning: Many targetless weapons are fairly cheap and provide fairly significant advantages. To have these work, as the rules can be read in that way, as a Zone of Control viable ARO without LOF to the active trooper makes these equipment very strong and in the case of smoke can set up very potent situations for secondary troops with MSV. This can be very unexpected for players not used to it and it is unintuitive as illustrated by Drop Bears where the placement mode requires LOF to the active trooper but the thrown mode does not explicitly do this even though this mode is normally the more explicitly restricted way to use this equipment.
100% approve. I wasn't aware you could toss smoke in response to zone of control, and thats a pretty silly thing to be able to do. Let alone the drop bear! You've cited a weird instance in the rules and given a logical response for it. The problem is that there is not much scope for discussion, which will leave this thread to sink to the bottom of the subforum. Maybe a poll would be a good idea?
This is a very good idea for the rules fix. Short, succinct, and attached to the Targetless trait so the effects on other things will be limited. @HellLois and @ijw if you're looking for an elegant one-sentence solution for the targetless ARO problem that the latest FAQ introduced, this would be a good one.
