Hi, I am wanting to field some haqqislam janissaries; however, they look so…ugly. I was thinking I could use a proxy for these models so long as they are some what similar to include size and weapons. Below are the Jannissaries. https://store.corvusbelli.com/wargames/infinity/miniatures/janissarie-hmg https://store.corvusbelli.com/wargames/infinity/miniatures/janissaries I plan to replace them with Pan’O Orcs. https://store.corvusbelli.com/wargames/infinity/miniatures/orc-troops https://store.corvusbelli.com/warga...on-division-panoceania-sectorial-starter-pack I would like to avoid a straight up replacement and since you guys are a creative bunch I wanted to see if you guys had any conversion ideas?
Get your hand on some old Asawira model, and after you proxied the model for the superior HI, you could also go a step furter and proxy the actual profile.
I'm not the biggest fan of Janissaire current models, but they're definitely not ugly. And they have one of the best female HI in the game. So if you're asking about proxing them with PanO stuff, than... This is a case for a Fiday :P And to be more serious - don't know what you like, but there are old Azra'ils, old Jannis, old Fasids, all with better and more suitable miniatures. IMHO ofcourse. Well... de gustibus non est disputandum, but I believe the ORCs to be very... stylistically inappropriate. If you definitely have to look elsewhere for alternate Janissaries, perhaps the Yu Jing range would do? I think Wu Ming could perhaps cut it (and they have the added benefit of being available in a box of 4 plus solo blister of ML). I'm assuming, of course, you could swap the weapons for Haqq-specific ones, and maybe a few extra bits of kit. That, and a paintjob matching the rest of your force, and they shuold be able to blend in, I guess.
While PanO have objectively the best looking HI due to the fact they looks like Briarios from Appleseed, the ORC box isn't easy to work with from a conversion perspective. It's very easy to assemble, each ORC is only 3 parts IIRC, but the tradeoff is that you can't easily swap arms, weapons, or heads due to the way the minis are chopped up.
What do people think of using Shang Ji ? If ever there was a decent excuse to buy the box ... doubling up is probably the best reason, but a shame there's no BS model. Only trouble would be syncing my paint jobs (haven't planned my YJ colours yet).
Bwhaha! Older Asawira are nice, but I dig the new sculpts. They remind me of locus. But, the Jans just hurt the eyes! I busted out laughing on this one. Okay, okay I get it. Pan’O is not a good fit for Haqq styled armor. Azri’ils and Fasids look fantastic, but are size five while Jans are size two so I cannot pick them. True! And, YJ makes some amazing armor in that it looks too cool for Haqq school if that makes any sense. /// Okay, I just looked at each HI model in each faction. Nothing really works. lol It’s awesome everything is so stylized, but it hard to proxy a metal green skeleton. Since I have several Tarik’s laying around I may just lop off his spitfire and throw on a HMG and M.Launcher. Of course, the only downside is that he is size five, but it is cheaper and in faction. Shrugs.
I messaged them via FB, it took them a week or so to respond. I was asking them for an ETA on all of Haqqs missing models. So, I scrolled through the store looking at Haqq models and I came to the conclusion to proxy all of my Jans with Hortlaks. I’ll have the weapons printed, lop of metal weapons, and glue on new ones - done. :]
I agree that they are the best option at this point. Hopefully a resculpt will be immanent based on the Hortlak aesthetic
Having converted a LOT of both Jannies and Hortlaks, I am a little lost here... They have very similar features. Legs and arms are the same. The Hortlak has pouches where the Janissary has the naked middle section, but other than that, the coat versus the larger power plant on the Jannies backs is the main difference, right?
I've meant old Azzies and Fasids - when they were S2. They were rather short and small. About Hortlaks - they're supposed to be similar to Jans because they are the lighter version of them. So it's a good and suitable option to convert Jans from them. PozdRawiam / Greetings
I think you are spot on. There are some minor differences, but not much outside a load bearing vest, trench coat, and helmet.
It would be easier to lower your unrealistic "beauty" standards to make something subjectively less "ugly".
Greetings all. Just had to contribute here, because Aleph is always watching ;) I think they look great, possibly my favorite HI minis. I use them as Asawira, and I have also written a Ramah list with a janissary link and look forward to fielding them as such. I left the backpack off as I think they look better this way, and the medic doesn't get one anyway. I also converted the missile to HMG, using the older HMG arm, with the belt feeding into the backpack to make it look like it has a purpose as an ammo box. This gives the squad some design consistency. I bought two boxes, so I have a full link... missile / hmg / shotgun / medic / rifle + boarding shotgun medic (asawira)
Wait until they are resculpted lol! Seriously they are the worst looking heavy infantry in the game. Sadly this is why Haqq is long way down the list of armies I find appealing
Have to humbly disagree I’m afraid. They are scrawny with bumpy bits with holes all over them. Don’t really strike me as utilitarian, more awkward than anything IMHO.
