I could remember that there was an announcement that CB changes to plastic to avoid a price increase for the metal figures? Now i see in my shop that the new szalamandra costs 8 euros more than the old one and the new blackjack is 5 euros more. Means in my shop 50 for the sally and 35 for the blacki, means the blackjack costs 5,10 euros more than the beast pack containing 2 models...wtf Thats a drastically increase in my eyes for cheaper production costs. Not that I cant afford buying new models, im just thinking loud :)
There was also a price increase in June. Switching to godawful siocast is to keep from increasing prices further later.
If I recall, the price increase is due to a problem with the supply chain for white metal in Spain but I can’t remember where I read that so I may be confusing this with something else. It is quite a large increase and as @Lucian said; the introduction of siocast is meant to help mitigate further cost increases.
Tin prices are just historically too damn high worldwide If I recall correctly. Due to Covid and China being biggest supplier. Producing big miniatures in metal is just unreasonable at this point (enough to justify investing in new equipment for siocast production).
Ah, yes. This looks familiar. Things seem unlikely to change then given the current climate. Which is a shame. I recall the glory days of metal (minis, not bands) but they were made of rather poisonous materials. I was fine with it… but white metal had some good times too. I have hopes for siocast and for the future of miniatures in general but a large cost increase in any market due to the state of world affairs is a sad thing to see.
Tin in 2011 was nearly as expensive as latelly (and I always wonder if that is in adjusted currency or not, because then it would be more). But oil/gas (transport) and electricity (melting pots IIRC, spin casters, general office use) also matter. CB actions clearly say the brand has a given price, even if the material has a lower one (Siocast should be easier to transport too, BTW). In the case of Spain everything is getting trickier, as not only it has the "highest price for everyone" forced by continental electricity market, but also energy companies are hell bent on profits (and not heard much about investing into new future projects with that cash)... even if that destroys their customers. I kid you not. Multiple companies are changing maintenance/rebuild schedules as workaround, or even cutting production directly (in maintenance ones probably will have to do so too, just later). One smelter complained publicly, an electricity company tried to shame them saying their lower production was not helping with transition to green energy... smelter replied (politely) "fuck you greedy assholes, only less than 3% of our production goes toward windmills and other green energy projects". It has become general for electric companies to cancel supply aggreements, even if that means paying fines, because the new deals they enforce will more than pay for all the fines. Wait a sec, Szally is Siocast if it comes in CodeOne box?
I hope so. Is there any kind of mark in the box when Siocast? I guess the "may contain up to 5% lead" disappears, I mean something more obvious.
They switched to a lead free pewter back in 2019 so that's not on the packaging any more anyway, it's also when they switched from the brown cardboard boxes to the white ones with the company name and logo printed on them. I can't comment on the boxes of Siocast miniatures yet as I make big orders 1-2 times a year to save on shipping and customs, but the plastic miniatures are labelled as such in their Webstore description.
The repackaged Sally and blackjack will be both still metal, that's why they've increased in price. The Siocast is only for new larger sculpts, not repackaged items.
Eh. Hobbies are money pits we gladly throw our money into. So, if the increase in cost helps CB produce a great game and provides me with more miniatures crack I’m good with that.
Oof, well my order of an in-stock Szalamandra just went belly-up as I received the incorrect item with none left to replace it with. Appears everybody is now out of stock and the price has shot up amongst the cheapest by a good 25% (35% up on prices 6-12 months ago from the same company) for the new pre-order (reboxed) Szally coming at the end of the month. I am hoping that the company I ordered with shall honour my purchase price and continue to try to source one for me, I've no objections to waiting for the end of the month under those circumstances. But if that's not the case, I suspect the new price will stop me from bothering to source it again and put pressure on me to limit future purchases.
I think the company you purchased it with will honour the price. At worst you’ll get a refund. I’m not sure why they’d put your purchase through if they were about to be out of stock, any independent I order with in the U.K. usually says if they can’t get the stock in. I do hope you’re able to get your szally at the price you were paying for it.
So the company I purchased my 'in-stock' Szalamandra from before Christmas will not be honouring the original price. Even with adding a further discount to the price they would normally charge, I'm still asked to pay +22% over the original price. Sadly, I am in no mood to want to pay the extra price for a model that, whilst awesome, I could easily replace with many more useful things. So I could ask for a refund, but do I pick up something else in its place like a second Zondnautica, box of Shang Ji or Carmen+Batard?... suggestions welcome please :)

Check your calculation again, that's a near 20% price increase on the original price. Whilst the Siocast were supposedly introduced to help keep prices low, remember that the Szallie and Blackjacks I believe are still in metal. It will be interesting to see how the costs of the REM's come out in comparison over the next 6 months. As a result, I probably won't get the Szalamandra now, despite it being one of the best looking TAG's imho. The only way I can justify it now is if a shop has a heck of a good discount on other items and requires me to pad out the price for free shipping, or I find it second hand (already missed out on one great deal this weekend).
Yes, I believe this is correct. The way I was taught for percentage increase was that you took the difference between the original number and the new number then divided the difference by the original number and multiply by 100. So the difference would be 45 then divide by 230 and multiply by 100. So 19.5652174. I think @Nuada Airgetlam calculated for percentage difference rather than increase. But if it had been a 17% increase it’s still large. Roughly 20% is quite the increase on price. I’ll have to look to see if the math holds true for British pounds and USA dollars too. The price increases are on miniatures that you don’t need many of however, so while it’s an inconvenience it’s not as bad as if you needed to buy ten of them for a game…
A shame and a possible crime (I am unfortunately unsure here) for your store not honouring the original price. I hope you got a full refund and sincere apology from the store. I’m also sorry you’re unlikely to get the szalamandra tag now. It’s a damn pretty tag. I wish you fortune in hunting one down for a decent price!
