im scanning possibilities to get objects and vehicles and containers for my scifi-urban-industrial terrain: 1.) which scale would work for infinity - i thought of something in between 1:55 - 1:60 2.) who is offering great and fitting models for that case in your eyes?
Several scales can fit but it's how you feell it fits or not. As a reference, historical 28mm wargames often use 1/72 scale models for vehicles (ie: Bolt Action)
I remember somebody on the previous incarnation of the forums used those for USAriadna, outright replaced the bikes with these but kept the models, they looked great! Fit surprisingly nice!
Right, Infinity is more 1:50 (trucks & construction machinery, die cast, also architecture kits) or 1:48 (military kits), specially as time passed. For some old minis, the tiny ones, 1:56 or 1:55 will work, but not for the rest.
1:43 is a common scale for die cast cars that works well with Infinity. Technically they're a little large but because the miniatures are raised up ~3mm by the base they look closer in scale than they actually are.
There's a variety of stuff in 1:43 to 1:55 in die-cast these days (cars, some motorcycles, trucks, cranes, buses, trams). These are some of mine. The streetsweeper is a matchbox scale "snow plough" - I just turned it into a robotic one. Need to paint a happy face on it.
Thanks for your replies! It really helped to convince me, that im on a too small scale track ;) Just measured a few of of my Zhanshi LI models and was surprised that they all where 35 - 37 mm with base. So even doing the math turned out that the scale should be something in between 1:48 - 1:52- Assuming that the average body height is something in between 1,70 - 1,90 m: 0,035 x 48 = 1,68 0,037 x 52 = 1,92 So, depending of what is available i will go for 1:50 (+/-)
These are all in the 1:48-1:55ish scale (but mostly "box" scale - as in they are all the size that fits into the same packaging as each other (except for the crane). The doors open on most of these so they can act as more dynamic cover (I generally put them on the table with doors open for that reason. Gives a much more "action movie" vibe.
Hot Wheels look quite nice too, but my problem with nearly all of the myriad choices available is that they look too today for me. Think of how the cars of 50 years ago looked compared to today, and now think 180 years in the future. I imagine some cars from today or the past will be present because "classics", but that should be the exception, i see tables full of present day cars and it just feels weird to me. If you're OK with that then all is well, you have a metric truckload (pun intended) to choose from. I'd need them to look more sci-fi somehow.
I'm still procrastinating on this for myself, but my inclination goes towards cars that look futuristic, mainly "concept cars" that never saw production but look oddly sci-fi even today (and so, so many Lambos!). That and actual sci-fi cars like the Blade Runner Spinners and others like this. That's if you keep to die-cast cars and the like, if you look for cars specially made for Infinity like the Micro Art Studio ones and others in those lines, those should fit right in. And of course, 3D printers allow you to go for anything you like.
