Just wondering if anyone has tried the combat jump version of the santiago killer hacker? I think he could be useful in some situation. If not why not?

Yep. When I can get him to land he has worked. Helped win me a game couple weeks ago by creating a bad situation for my opponent. Templating his link near an armory and tanking some combi fire.

he has never been the Focus for my attacks tho. Maybe I should try that.

I've tried him a few times and I've found him underwhelming for the cost. He takes out too much from the list and then is not able to pull 60 points of weight. Everything he does he pretty much wants to be under 8" and it makes his placement very finicky I find.

He is rather points heavy and is tricky to place but depending on the scenery layout and the scenario itself he can be quite useful especially in a capacity as a distraction.

I made one from a spare icestorm father knight and some wings from a crusader brethren.

Seen it once or twice and tried it once in Starmada.
Of those, he missed 1, got hit by a HD hexa and immobilized 1, and was an pain to deal with 1.

Works great, but better have the EVO hacker in a different combat group.

It is really important though to remember that he has mines and Dcharges are a functional close combat weapon in this edition.
