So my wife use to play and she’s thinking of getting back into the game. (Insert excited noises here) She wants to play Vanilla Haqq which is her old faction. But a lot has changed in the game since early HSN3. My question to you wonderful people is, do you have any suggestions on what units/purchases would be on the top of your list to get if you were starting over?

I’m thinking to start out, action pack, support pack, at least 1 s3 remote box, maybe Mutt box. But beyond that, not sure what way to go to give her some fun effective units.

Individual blisters or boxes. Give me like a top 10.

People will be along to recommend various super soldiers but do not forget the lowly Daylami. The have become a staple even more than i N3. Of course, if she has a lot of the old models you can proxy the old Ghulam as Daylami.

In no particular order, my suggestions:
    1. Remote Box: Super Useful. The Rafiq is wonderful and drones are great in general
    2. Hassassin Bahram Haqqislam Sectorial Army Starter Pack: With the exception of the Ayyar, all the profiles are great. Daylami are wonderful, Farzan FO is such a workhouse, and the Muyib GL is a good solid unit that can also be proxied as a NCO Ghulam GL. And the Ayyar can just be proxied.
    3. The Nazarova Twins, Kum Enforcers: While you will probably use just Zuleyka, they are beautiful models. Zamira can just be a regular Kum.
    4. Mukthar, Active Response Unit (Hacker): One of the better Hackers in the game. They are also a great combat specialist that can do a good amount of classifieds.

Action pack yes, there's lots that's useless in there but also lots you need. Support pack, maybe, if you like the sculpts. Otherwise, one of the action pack Ghulams makes a perfectly good doctor and you don't need the engineer. If you need nasmats, consider whether the Hakim box would serve you better than the support pack. S3 remotes, definitely.

Mutts are good but nowhere near what they were in N3. Maybe hold off a bit, but the sculpts are great so maybe just go for it.

HB starter for the Daylami, as @bladerunner_35 says.

Then, Asawira spitfire and Zuleyka are the big one. After that there's a lot to choose from and you don't know what she'll decide suits her playstyle. I'd say start with all the above, then wait until she's player for a bit before deciding what else she wants. The action pack will give her lots of extra bodies to proxy whatever she doesn't have yet.

Thank you all for the suggestions so far. The Hakim box is a good idea. Those guys seem pretty interesting. Good to hear that the twins are desirable. They were one of her faves before so it’s nice that they’re useful.

Is the Asawira okay in vanilla with frenzy? Just curious. It has a great stat line otherwise.

Ayyar may not be the best profile in the game, but man those models are wicked.

The Asawira currently is one of Haqqislam's best units. With its great BS, MA, armor, Regen, and BTS they are wonderful. Yes they lose partial cover with frenzy, but the extra order can sometimes make up for it. They now fit the fluff.

The only (personal) issue is that I am not a fan on the new Spitfire Model, so I use the old one. The Ayyar does look ace, though. I am sure no one would have a big issue if you proxied them as Asawiras. Tthe one in the HB starter could be modeled as an Asawira Spitfire.

@Grotnib has a good article on Hakims on their blog:https://thegoodguyswearorange.blogspot.com/2020/03/a-shield-held-high-hakims-in-rtf-hakims.html

Thank you @Brokenwolf. That makes a lot of sense. And they do seem to be really good versatile units. And yeah the Ayyar would make a sweet proxy for the Asiwira. I was thinking the Azrail would be great too. Hard to find now but the Al Fasid comes in the action pack so he’ll be a perfect proxy too.

One of the best things about Infinity is the permissive proxy rules. I use the Ariadna Caledonian Mormaers HMG as my Djanbazan HMG and are planning on using the Nomad Cheerkiller Marksman Rifle as either Yara Hadid or Leila Sharif. Just make sure you use a unified color scheme and let your opponents know.

Very true! I love that about infinity! I’m currently planning on making a Guijia into an O-Yoroi because I personally like the aesthetic a lot better for JSA. But conversions and proxy’s are great in this game. Like you said, as long as you can keep track of what’s what and your opponent knows.

For Yara Haddad if you have haqqislam/RTF starter, Murabid Tuareg Sniper is a very good proxy.

    Cheers.

I'll come at this from another angle.

I have generally come to the conclusion after many games that Haqqislam currently seems to best perform for me with 10 to 12 regular orders, and generally 3 to 5 irregular orders from expendable cheap troopers. You can still trade those guys in for another couple orders if you want. But the pressure seems to be less with the extra bodies even if they aren't contributing to order pools.

So bikers, ghazi, and daylami are likely to feature well if you don't have them already.
