Okay, this might (or not) be a weird question, but I'd like to know what the Infinity community's consensus is. My question: minis that were released as ITS / AGL prizes. Is it okay to buy them, not win them? In fact, is it okay to buy a whole ITS / AGL to get one (let's not get into whether it's sensible money-wise...)? I'm asking, as I happen to have the ITS version of Aida. I'd also really, really like to have the AGL version of Parvati (she looks much more boss than the regular version that will be released soon). I'm wondering, though: maybe it's wrong for me to have them without winning them? Would this be considered cheating, if I simply buy the AGL kit to get the Parvati I want..? Or does nobody care about these things?
Collecting toy soldiers is, like, one of the points of this hobby. The answer to "is it ok to collect a toy soldier" is always yes. I can't imagine anyone would try to tell you what toys you are or aren't allowed to own, but if someone did, that's on them not you.
If you want to spend $75 or so on a single mini, go for it. I'm not likely to ever do that - because I don't usually want any of the "exclusive" ITS winner models anyway.
To your question, a question: is it ethical to release those minis as limited editions only, especially in cases when they're the only minis in their profile, so if we were to be absolute stickler to rules* the only people who could use them would be ITS winners, who have already won tournaments and so are probably the least in need of additional profiles? Personal answer: No, pretty much nobody cares enough to brand you a cheater if you buy an ITS pack full price just to get the mini. * Yes, I know there's a proxy rule now, it was introduced long after ITS winner minis started appearing.
Okay, thanks for input. Another question: is it okay to try reselling the gadgets from an ITS / AGL kit? Like patches, anti-stress die etc. Just to try to mitigate the cost of a box I only need for the mini... Seems kind of wasteful just to throw the rest in the trash.
The freaking what now? If they actually include a big soft d20 I can mangle and throw at people and if your username correctly suggests your location, I might be interested.
I think its a big D6 with Aristeia symbols. Not sure, I don't play Aristeia. Here's the image of the set: Overall, a lot of stuff that could be resalable? If it *is* okay to resell it...
I totally bought a Season XI box for the miniature and the toys. It's totally fine as long as you're willing to answer "Wow, how'd you get that?!?" with "I bought the tournament kit from CB's website."
I vehemently dislike the idea of exclusivity for miniatures in general. Procure them however you care to, and paint them up as beautifully as you can. If there's one thing about CB's operations that really does bug me, it's the amount of 'exclusive' or 'limited' miniatures that they produce.
I'd agree with you if CB didn't release like 90% of the minis as general release with often a very slight re-pose. Often not that long after. I don't see many better examples of providing nice little incentives to people buying certain products, without locking people out of useful game profiles.
Well, in my case, the incentive worked I couldn't find the AGL box anywhere, but then I noticed that limited Parvati was available in ITS 12 box, too. So, I ordered it. Considering the box (including shipping) costed my 45 EUR, it makes Parvati the most expensive miniature I've ever bought (in relation to its size, of course). Now I really need to play the heck out of her... O-12, here I come! Time to design that COPS: Central Organization of Police Specialists list...
It's more about the awkward way she's holding it. Also, a really weird positioning of legs. I can't help thinking she has had her knees dislocated...
Agreed the general release pose for Parvati is terrible. Why they can't release the ITS pose as a general release is beyond my understanding.
My favourite mini in my entire collection is the Ltd edition abh sniper. I absolutely did not win her, but found her on eBay about 3 years after she was discontinued & paid rather a lot for her. I've bought every ITS pack since because I'm mostly a collector & I enjoy the minis. I would never claim to have won any of them & quite frankly if someone had a problem with my owning them that would be very much their problem rather than mine & I wouldn't regard it as a loss if they refused to play me either.
