JAB's Defiance painting log

Hi all,
I've been painting up my copy of Infinity Defiance. Our team got through half of mission 3 today and are having a blast. Let's hope we can kick some Charontids butt next time.

Since I've been making my way through the box I figured I could share my progression for inspiration and an incentive to finish it. Let's start with the heroes:

Qiang and Rahman are painted by their respective players, the others by me.

Next are the Taigha creatures. These chunky guys have a lot of character and I think they turned out quite well, considering they were my quickest paint job of the box.

 

Next, the Jayth. These cool troopers feel different from the other Shasvastii, and they ended up rather colorful to stand apart. But I think it kind of works, hope you like em!

Next update: The main bad guys, the Nox. Because these are the most numerous Shasvastii infantry unit, they represent the overall color scheme of the Shasvastii army, based around purple and green. For ease of recognition in the game, all the other Shasvastii units will have some additional or alternative color, such as seen in the Jayth.

Here are the Cadmus, the more elite drop troopers. I gave them neon yellow accents to stand out. I'm quite happy how the blade of the middle soldier turned out, but overall the scheme is maybe a bit lackluster. At least they fit well with the Nox and yet are also discernable. Cheers!

 

Now for one of the most bad-ass units in the box: the Gwailo. Since he is elite heavy infantry, I wanted him to look more aggressive, more high-tech than the others. I had a lot of fun painting this cool model.

 

The last enemy in mission 1; Sheskin. I still remember the thrill of running away from this killing machine once she arrives.
I painted her to match the scheme of the Gwailo, since they're in comparable heavy armour. I added some blue touches in her face, sword and gun to draw attention to those areas and make her appear special.
That's all the paintjobs for mission 1!

I'm getting through the Shasvastii mini's, I still need to finish Caliban and then the Speculo killers, Aida and Victor. Probably then the expansion has arrived and I have a whole new backlog .
For now I can show you the seed soldiers. I love how the fluff describes how these guys are hidden as embryo's weeks in advance, only hatching when the enemy is close. Their surprise attack (though a little confusing at first) is also really cool in the game, really forcing you to think who can safely activate and who needs to stay still. To signify their embryo state, I made some resin egg-like markers. Otherwise, to give them more of a biological, camouflaged feel, I painted them with more greens and browns, which I think worked out pretty well.

Here is the Charontid, the boss enemy of mission 3. He needs to look like the clear leader, somewhat detached from the other Shasvastii and menacing. That's why I went for reds, oranges and yellows on this one. It matches some of my older onyx force mini's, which helps to maintain coherency in my whole CA collection.

Thanks guys! I'm a little behind on the last few mini's of defiance, but I still have some pictures of all the scenery that comes with the scenery pack. I think those are really nice to have on the board, they really flesh out the game.

 

Hi everyone,
It's been a while since my last update. We've been progressing through the campaign and are having a blast. The missions are a good deadline for me to paint towards so here's an update with the Caliban that appear later in the Campaign. I really liked painting these guys, I opted to give them blue accents to simulate some kind of stealth field.

 

Thanks! The blues are Vallejo sky blue with some glazing of blue green. I'm not sure why, but that combo always makes a very vibrant blue. The reds are undercoated white and then painted fluo orange with glazes of red ink in selected places.

I think it took some filing and fiddling before it was acceptable and even then I filled some gaps between the arms and the back with greenstuff. So it definitely took some effort to get them to fit without gaps.
