INFINITY PANOCEANIA VARUNA: Croc Man (Hacker) My only Croc Man (Don't like the sniper/dagger guy as he looks like a 1980s mini with his static pose and contradictory weapon loadout). The Hacker guy is OK though. I tried to paint darker tone Polynesian skin. I think it turned out alright. I tried to blend the flesh onto the tattoo so it looks more like a tattoo rather than filigree. Other than that he was pretty straightforward to paint. Spoiler: More Pics
INFINITY PANOCEANIA VARUNA: Echo Bravo Echo Bravo, Fast Intervention Unit Nice models, but people don't rate the trooper file (poor old suicide jumpers). I like the minis a lot. It was nice to paint a very different miniature profile for Pano (you get sick of those Pano boots after a while as they are the same on every model lol!). I especially like their aerodynamic heads (all the better for speeding toward their impending doom). Where are their jump packs like in the artwork? The WildParrot is cut too, just a little lug of a mini to paint. Echo Bravo (Light Rocket Launcher) Spoiler: More Pics Echo Bravo (Paramedic) Spoiler: More Pics WildParrot Spoiler: More Pics
INFINITY PANOCEANIA VARUNA: Zulu Cobra Team Zulu-Cobra, Special Recon and Intervention Team These guys have a very unique look for Varuna. They were fun to paint since they are very different from other Pano models. However their cloaks proved a little tricky to try and highlight. I like the hacker the best with her ridiculously combat practical hairdo, to me that is iconic Varuna and Infinity. INFINITY PANOCEANIA VARUNA: Dronbot Remotes So happy these guys got resculpted. Nice crisp detail to paint. A fair splash of freehand took quite a while to do. I added quite a bit of black to the colour scheme so they tie in nicely with the Varuna army. Sierra Dronbot (HMG) Spoiler: More Pics Clipper Dronbot (Missile Launcher) Spoiler: More Pics Video
INFINITY PANOCEANIA VARUNA: Cutter Cutter, Varuna Naval Chasseurs Regiment The big boi, newly resculpted and returned as one of Infinity's most iconic TAGs. I was so happy when this guy got updated and his tiny butt/puny legs predecessor was retired. This sculpt was the tipping point to start a Varuna army. The new cutter rocks (big gun, bulky and baddass) and has a pretty darn good trooper profile to boot. This guy was so much fun to paint and required all my Pano experience and skills to finish. TAGs are always daunting to start, but once I get over it in my head that it will take about a week to finish and I just work on different sections at a time the work becomes manageable and it gets done. I liked working on the lighting angles on the armour panels the most and then the freehand was satisfying to pull off. Varuna's heavy hitter is ready for battle! Spoiler: More Pics
INFINITY PANOCEANIA VARUNA: Fusiliers Fire Team Fusiliers Fire Team The big motivation for getting these guys done was to do see a Fusiliers team in Varuna colours. Half of these guys were my first Pano minis and the special weapons guys were the last guys I worked on in my big batch of Varuna minis. I think I have gotten a bit better at doing them over time. I liked doing the missile guy the most. INFINITY PANOCEANIA MILITARY ORDERS: Knight of Montesa Knight of Montesa I was very impressed by this model so I wanted to add it to my Varuna Sectorial. I didn't think the bright green on the studio models would fit well with my army so I used a muted camo green instead. Lots of freehand made this quite a taxing job to finish. But it was worth it. This guy is one of my favourites in the range and I'm glad I got the limited edition one instead of the regular one since I think the pose on this version is better. INFINITY PANOCEANIA VARUNA: Tech Bee & Crabbot Tech Bee & Crabbot Bonus mini for my Varuna Sectorial. I love how most armies have a pinup mascot in Infinity. Cheescake may be controversial for some but not for me as I'm not in the slight bit prudish. I say bring on the sexy as well as the robots! Tech Bee Spoiler: More Pics Crabbot Spoiler: More Pics
You drive me mad, you know that? How do you get your paint jobs to be so smooth? I've put your Tech Bee next to mine, and mine looks like I've applied the paint straight out of the bottle (which I didn't of course). This doesn't include the fact that your painting skills (especially of skin) are simply a few levels above mine, but honestly, do you have any advice as to what I might be doing wrong? Or do you simply have a better camera that takes smoother pictures? Here's a side to side if you don't mind that shows the difference pretty clearly:
To get smooth results I always add heaps of water to every colour. Around 50% at least as a guess (maybe more but Im not sure. I just know when the consistency is right). Then I apply a few thin layers to get a smooth consistent coverage. I use a wet palette to help mixing and keeping colours on the go but I usually add the paint from there to a dry palette and then mix the water (otherwise the wet pallet gets too messy). Hope this helps. :-)
Wet palette, watered down colors and all that I already do. I think I found where at least part of the problem is though: Zenithal highlighting with white, especially Schmincke titanium white, as well as airbrushing with "problem colors" like yellow and orange. For some reason, those very quickly come out grainy.
