hej, As i understood the special type and equipment of a version of a model (for example hacker) is public information and must be shared. So for example the hacking ability must be declared at game start and before using it right? Or do i have to share this information only at the point when using its ability? Im asking because this makes it nearly impossible to use hackers or special abilities while keeping the identity of your lieutenant secret (at least for winteforces) - your oponent could always use the principle of exclusion for any model with special abilities like hacking, forward deployment, etc. to identify your lieutenant... Do i get anything wrong, or is it like that and thats the price you pay for using special abilities in an army list? Thanks and best regards Romansky
I dont fully understand the question probably. Anyway yes the specific loadout (weapons, skills, atd) is public information. However every Lieutenant option in WinterFor have the same loadout which is not a Lieutenant so oponent does not know if its for example Orc with Multirifle or Orc with Multirifle Lieutenant. In case you dont take any of the "Lieuntenant like options" then oponent which knows the sektorial well will deduce the identity of your Lieutenant. So if you do not want your oponent to know exactly, you need to pick some of the "Lieuntenant like options" aswell. Edit Note: in most factions if you know the sectorial well and you see the list on table you can mostly deduce to 1-3 models, where one of them is Lieutenant. (unless Camo Lieutenant or Holomask Lieutenant profiles exist in the army)
hej Alri thanks for your reply an yes you got my questions totally right - i understand that you have to pick the "lieutenant like option", but the options are unfortunately (specially in pano / winterforce) very reduced and there is nearly no interesting "Lieutenenant like" option with special abilities or equipments like hacking, foward deployment, grenades, ...
That's the case with a lot of factions, and is a deliberate design choice. In Winterfor, I think you said in another post that you plan to run a defensive Fusilier core, so I'd recommend making one of the Fusiliers your Lt and another a decoy. If your opponent wants to put you in LoL, they have a 50/50 guess as to which is the Lt, and even if they guess right, the link bonuses give your Lt some defense. You mentioned in another post that you want to take a Grenade Launcher Fusilier. The GL is not a good weapon, so that's a good candidate to convert into an Lt decoy, also saving you 4 points and 1 SWC. I don't agree with you that Vanilla Pano lacks Lt options with interesting abilities. The Zulu Cobra, Squalo, and Cutter are all interesting. There are some factions with really exceptional Lt options, like the Daoying in Yu Jing, but they're the exception, not the norm. Again, a deliberate design choice representing those factions' highly effective command structure.
Thats same case in most Armies. For Winterfor it usualy ends up on Fusiliers in defensive core or kinda obvious agressive Lt. like Yotum, Orc HMG or KoJ Spitfire where you kinda openly play with the information and use the Lt. Order as extra resources. But as I said it ends up like this in most armies in some, its however backed by Chain of command so you are not risking so much but you pay the points for the Chain of Command troopers just to lower the risk of Loss of Lieutennat. There is very few of Lieutenant profiles which are also Specialists. So the usual question is safe Lt. usualy some cheap troop preferably linked for extra safety (not using the Lt order unless you can use it with NCO troop) or Agressive "obvious" Lt. which uses the Lt. Order every turn. So in case of Winterfor the Basic Fusilier is good candidate for Lt. or as Lt. decoy (noo need to have whole link filled with specialist or heavy weapons so one or two basic fusiliers in the Core link will be ok. Then the KoJ spitfire, Jotum or Orc HMG are good candidates aswell. When you have 2-3 troops which can be the Lieutenant it usualy stops good oponents from focusing on "Lieutenant Kill" in first turn since, if you invest too many orders on killing one troop which ends up not being the Lieutenant then you can easily lose a game. As you do not have then orders to do other stuff which you need (like killing heavy hitters or doing objectives)
thank you very much guys, i really apreciate! That helps a lot - obviously im a noob to infinity and on my way making it through rules and tactics!
For what it's worth, Infinity really tends to split between: Lieutenants that you can hide in your list, such as the "basic trooper with added Lieutenant skill" Rockstar lieutenants who show up and can't be mistaken for anything else, such as the Combined Army's Avatar because of skills like Strategos "Rambo" lieutenants who you take because you're planning to use the lieutenant order (exposing who your lieutenant is) when the time is right. Just sayin' that "Come and try!" can be a workable alternative to hiding your lieutenant, depending on the lieutenant. :)
