Sounds weird but this is the biggest plus from the studio update for me - the fact that they're evidently responding rapidly to QC issues with the new product is a brilliant sign. I feel better about the switch, as long as they keep on top of this... Good job CB! I was less satisfied with Bostria's answer on price vs cost, however. Just a small concession would do it, something like: "Siocast models will revert back to the prices before the most recent price increase. As we told you then, the cost of metal increasing forced that hike and, because the cost of metal obviously has zero effect on siocast production, we're passing a fraction of the savings onto you, the customer." There has to be some price differentiation between models produced with metal and siocast, as there is with every other company I've seen using this tech, imo. Finally, I lost count of the number of times Bostria said "for now" in relation to the whole line going siocast. Looks very much to be happening in the future, barring any riots :D
Possible, but not certain. In the long term, with plastics developing rapidly and not much innovation in metal casting on the horizon, metal models will become a luxury. It's on the customers to determine whether they'd like to pay for the luxury. For now CB seems to be at least sending signals that they will react to feedback from their customers. We'll see where this will go eventually.
I would be willing to pay for a high detail metal model, if there was a metal release of the Vostok i could easily see throwing $40 at it. But that's me.
There's an argument to be made about offering it as a bootleg CB store "to order only" product, but it's a fucking messy one. Privateer Press went down a similar route with certain product lines and it was a total shitshow but I can't entirely say that it wasn't just the shitfingers effect that PP head staff had and the idea may have worked under better leadership.
Yeah, I would love limited time preorder only metal versions of plastic models being made only for those who order it, without any stock leftover.
Would I pay more for a metal not-a-sandworm? No, probably not. This thing will demolish some tables just by its sheer weight. Would I pay extra for a metal vostok or bear or a S2 troop - yes (within reasonable limits). Unless I plan on heavy converting when plastic is more convenient.
Ah okay. Ariadna has remotes though, don't they? I just buy the monsters, not the rest of the faction... :)
This is hugely appreciated and a further indicator that making noise on the Forum and elsewhere pays off. And that Rao is exactly the case I've mentioned before - if they manage the same Siocast quality as Creature Caster in small minis, I'd be fine with switching completely. The ability to buy "metal skins", even for a reasonably higher price, would be great though.
Another question: How well does the new material work with modelling putties like milliput? With the new flexibility added it seems like there would be additional issues keeping them bonded since there isn't a rigid base. Also, please do a limited run of metals lol.
After seeing the siocast video, it appears you can’t use the same mold for the metal that you used for the plastic. It seems…unwise to make a metal mold just for made to order models.
Well no. Metals are spin-cast, not injection moulded. The models are done in a ring in a circular mould. The metal is poured into the centre reservoir and flows out to the ring by centripetal force. With few exceptions, you can't even spin-cast that many resins (non-newtonian fluid physics comes into play there) unless they are really low-viscosity resins, and those resins usually have loooong cure times as well. This is an injection moulded nylon-like plastic (NYLON(tm) is a DuPont trademarked substance - but other related plastics in the same molecular family are not so.).
I am still want to touch and see material irl. And it is sorry, that I definitely have no financial option to buy as much metal miniatures as I can now. But I would look for the game and it’s world anyway.
Good solution for the face acne, they discarded the mold and made a new one. My take is they did not push the silicone enough, if at all, against the "vertical" surfaces (shallow detail, rough plastic). See how the molds have two colors in the model caviities (yellow vs dark grey, ignore the main surface in dusty yellow, probably due to anti sticky substance), specially in tricky parts (plug holes for the arms) or where the technician removed too much from the base block (the examples I linked pages ago, lots of red blobs against the main green). Instead of that, they decided to cut the head, fine for me. Tho the align plugs could be better, it seems mostly dependant in the "chin" having a small indentation in the body, then squarish steps for the rest. Yeah, it would have been nice to go back in time, price-wise. They prefer to keep on seeing for how long people keep on buying. Lowering the prices a notch would have been a big signal at the place where it matters: the shop. No need of social media, videos or anything, box and sticker show it: "we went with plastic now, same high quality miniatures, but it is more affordable". (The electricity prices and rumors about more taxes reminded me about effects in consumption...) Question for CB: How big is the Spanish market currently? They spoke clearly about the USA not long ago (70% of CB's total IIRC). In other words, the confirmed the transition, "for now" all new big models... then new small models, maybe later the reissue of old models when then molds must be replaced... just that the countdown can be long.
Badly. Yes. You go ahead and pat yourself on the back. CB’s stated commitment to quality miniature production is entirely due to your incessant clamouring.
Dear Nuada, I like it when you make valid arguments cool-headedly, but I feel sad when your acute sentiments cloud up your own opinion. It's difficult for me to agree to the statement "Making noises pays off". You know, I agree that's one of many ways to get attention from people. But that doesn't necessarily deduce a conclusion "If you want to get attention from others and deliver them a proper message, you should make noises." If you never meant that, that's a good thing. But I'm afraid if you are confusing negative feedbacks triggered by your negative stimuli, with a well-earned reward for your heroic feat. Virtue is its own reward, mate. Stay healthy, and have a good day.
