Though in the topic of pronunciation it always amuses me when I play someone from the US and I see that moment of confusion in their eyes the first time I mention my Lieutenant.

Personally I just pronounce everything like I would in Spanish or Portuguese, typically stands me in good stead.

 

The "Ojotnik" always got local players when it came to pronunciation.
"Ojot-" or "Oyot-" or ...
These players for the most part had never read the fluffier section of the rulebook (N2).
In the description of the weapon in the N2 book, it gave the original Russian Cyrillic - which revealed the operative sound was more of a "Kh" sound. So not the soft "y" version of "j" and not the softer Spanish "J" ("h") and was more properly pronounced "Okhnotnik".

 

Funnily enough they've become "Ohotniks" in N4

Spelling Bee competitions never went far, if existed at all, in places using those languages. No chance with strict rules, or minimal exceptions at worst. If you concluded it is "kh", that would be (southern) j Spanish, based in IPA.

Edit: I was wrong, it would be jamon, but not the plain one, more like in south accent, softer.
