Who else think CB should have Carlos do a video on how to pronounce all the different profile in the game. Our LGS is having multiple debates on how to pronounce certain profiles. If you have a specific request please add it below. It started with the following "She - skin" or "Shè - skin"
Possibly better to get Tom from Mayacast to do it, rather than the chap who begins most seminars by apologising for his accent! For you specific question it's pronounced Shess (like chess) Keen (like the commander). Though in the topic of pronunciation it always amuses me when I play someone from the US and I see that moment of confusion in their eyes the first time I mention my Lieutenant.
Personally I just pronounce everything like I would in Spanish or Portuguese, typically stands me in good stead.
The "Ojotnik" always got local players when it came to pronunciation. "Ojot-" or "Oyot-" or ... These players for the most part had never read the fluffier section of the rulebook (N2). In the description of the weapon in the N2 book, it gave the original Russian Cyrillic - which revealed the operative sound was more of a "Kh" sound. So not the soft "y" version of "j" and not the softer Spanish "J" ("h") and was more properly pronounced "Okhnotnik".
His accent in English. OTOH, you may want to check how Tom says, for example, Vallejo. Spelling Bee competitions never went far, if existed at all, in places using those languages. No chance with strict rules, or minimal exceptions at worst. I always found moot the transliterations of Japanese, etc into English, as they will find all kind of ways to pronounce (and with luck, one will be right... but do not count on it). So like reading "ojotnik" in Spanish? Assuming you mean plain J (jamón), not converted to aspirated H. Maybe interruptor should do a recording, and dispel doubts of PAW (pronunciation as written) vs PAI (as intended). <_<
Next thing you know you'll get into a discussion over the proper pronunciation of zounds (does the vowel sound like 'sound' or 'wound').
If you concluded it is "kh", that would be (southern) j Spanish, based in IPA. Edit: I was wrong, it would be jamon, but not the plain one, more like in south accent, softer.
Being French that always crack me up, english-speaking peoples always say "Coup de Gras" It's like "Strike of Fat" (not fate, but fat, like, greasy stuff)
I would love to watch such a video, but I guess since I am mostly playing with anglos it would be moot. There simply isn't enough knowledge and respect for other languages amongst anglos. Meanwhile, I can try the translation websites for pronounciation.
