So I have a limited insertion tournament coming up and I was thinking the Zero-G on the Geckos would be very handy in a mission where the middle of the board is difficult terrain and a saturation zone. (0.5 | 27) 3.5 SWC | 300 Points Open in Infinity Army So my big question is if I should proxy the MK12 Gecko as double combi? In the saturation zone getting dropped down to burst 2 seems rough.
The only time you would should another double combi is if the first is disabled, but you shoot a MK12 every time you need the range. I think having the MK12 is still more useful.
As for the rest of the list I was hoping I covered most of my bases while still giving myself a good amount of multi-terrain troops with marker state for rushing the civilians. Anything jump out as a bad idea or a huge glaring weakness?
Gecko seems OK, but keep in mind rescue is a really order-intensive mission. You've only got ten orders to work with. If you use any of the toys you brought (AHD, HD+, Smoke & MSV2) you're liable to mess up your pace and not rescue enough civilians to win. I think you ought to be laser-focused on a list that can rescue dudes. Bran do Castro and smoke could be a good start. Also, as Loricus said, you can't duo them without an EVO (big waste!) and even if you went to the trouble, they can't be linked with civilians in tow.
Goodness no. I just noticed they can ignore the terrain issue and being big tough models with 3 wounds hopefully manage to fight their way to the civilians and get them back to my side of the table. The other thing they can be used for is mobile LOF blockers while the zeros and the spektr grab civilians. The AHD is most likely to be used as an ARO surprise if any HI, Tags, or remotes are unfortunate enough to stumble into my hacking range.
I'm worried you might be overestimating how much you can do each turn. Rescue is the kind of mission where it can easily take all ten of your orders to get someone with multi-terrain across the board, synch a civilian, and get somewhere safe-ish. I think if you want to be successful, you have to start on that right from the get-go - there's just no time to advance the geckos, set them up, then move folks in behind them. I have to keep talking up monkey man for this one. This is like, his mission.
I get that it takes 3 orders just to get to and sync civie assuming a direct path and no resistance. Naturally anything that has to blow an order at the edge of the zone is in even worse shape. If I get lucky I might be able to use some coordinated orders to get into position to start grabbing some civies.
I have an upcoming match of rescue in our local league. For that one I am running Bakunin, but I would still run Bran in vanilla. He just had all the tools. Morlock smoke lgl for 14 points should not be overlooked in this one. It’s rescue, you will have the SWC and the free order helps. I’d also be mindful of including specialists that can get caught in repeater nets or other hacker zoc’s, if you plan on using them to sync with civilians. If you want to move a beefcake up the board, I would consider the Kriza HMG. Yes, one less wound, but it has the burst, range and modstacks to clear TR bots and snipers without losing tempo.
For the price of a gecko you've got a nice and handsome tough guy with multiterrain, two wounds and Burst+1 in active called Kriza (aka Prizza, because he's as good as Pizza) that I think could be good addition to your list. And you have enough SWC already. At Burst+1 he's going to be king in the center table if coupled with an HMG. Saturation zone you said? Your HMG is only burst 3? Sooo bad... let me grab 4 dices... I also agree with what others have said... Brando is much more effective in this mission due to his superior infiltration and you can easily swap the spektr for it
Do you recommend the specialist Bran for this mission or is it too unlikely that I could sync multiple civies?
I’d probably go for it myself, on the off chance that you find yourself in a position where you have the orders and position to sync two of them and get to a safe place. But as you say, it’s pretty unlikely.
So I listened to some of the advice in the thread( I really want to use the Geckos and I am waiting on the Kriza to get released as a stand-alone model) So I am going to take advantage of the proxy rules and use my Spektr model as Bran Do Castro and my Jaguar as a Morlock. You might not need a clockmaker. The knife cuts both ways with orders on Rescue, so unless someone AROs with a blitzen you won't run much risk of E/M on the Geckos. It could be a good opportunity to upgrade a Zero to a Prowler or a Bandit.
Planning on making one of the Geckos my data tracker. Being able to fix it is super tempting. Also I am tempted to change the zero KHD into either a deplorable repeater or a second minelayer Zero Is that stronger? If I do that what should I do with the 2 points that get freed up?
Depends on what you are planning on using the deployable repeater for. They’re both fine choices in my book.
White Noise protection if MSV ARO becomes scary Stay away from my TAGs/ ARO to keep them from acting up if they get possessed Making life hard for Pain Train users who want to get to their civies. But the minelayer would be great at eating up enemy orders and protecting against AD troops on one side.
