Curious and need some clarity. If some one spec fires and uses a grenade launcher in your area. They have no LOF and I have now LOF back. It’s at a -6 and can be difficult but doable. If I get fired at from the speculative fired grenade launcher person and I declare by a dodge action. Am I to dodge at -3 as I don’t have LOF as per the dodge rules ?
You don't have LoF back, but if the spec fire goes through a zero visibility zone, you can respond with BS Attack at -6 despite not having LoF. Your shot won't even be that difficult. The attacker is at -6 from spec fire, and their grenade launcher doesn't have a positive rangeband. You probably have a weapon with a +3 rangeband, so overall they'll be on -6 and you'll be on -3, both at B1. Often you'll be odds-favoured to win the fight.
Hi. Thanks for the response. Is your scenario talking about firing through smoke ? in my scenario the grenade launcher mini was in a roof out of LOF and blind firing (spec fire) all over a map. So no one could return fire as there was no LOF. But with smoke in your example. Would that mean there is “probably” LOF as you can shoot back and so dodge penalty cannot be applied ?
It seems like you're confused about a few rules. If LoF between the spec firing attacker and the target is blocked by scenery, the target can't shoot back, at -6 or otherwise. Its only option is to Dodge at -3. If LoF between the attacker and the target is blocked by Zero Visibility Zone (e.g. smoke), then the target can shoot back or Dodge. No LoF is created ("probably" or otherwise). The target just gets to shoot back without LoF per the ZVZ rules. It will suffer a -6 penalty. If the target instead chooses to Dodge, it will suffer the -3 penalty for dodging a template weapon without LoF to the attacker.
Does the -3 penalty for dodging a template weapon without LoF not get superseded by the line on page 134 under Zero Viz zones that says (emphasis: mine): ► However, in this situation, the Skills the target can declare in ARO, or as the second Short Skill of their Order, are limited to BS Attack with a -6 MOD, Dodge without the MOD, or any Skill that doesn’t require LoF. I know in other posts Diphoration has emphasized the fact that dodging related to getting smoke-shot is not at -3. Not sure if you disagree with that or if there's an exception for Template Weapons.
I'd forgotten that was a possibility! Here's the prior thread: https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/dodging-templates-through-zero-visibility-zones.38288/
