This is just a fun speculation. I know she’s probably not hugely needed, and maybe her awesome cc skills step on the toes of less proficient profiles. But fluff wise, it feels a bit weird that she’s not in MO. She is literally the reason the Father knights got better at cc, helping them to become the Knights of Justice that we have today. She even wears some of the armor they have. And I’d totally run her with Teutonic or Hospitaller Knights along with her KoJ buddies. Anyone else feel this way or think at some point she might get added?
Shona should be in MO her mini looks way too good beside the MO knights not to be allowed in their ranks :)
Glad to hear a couple positive thoughts already. :D Right now I’m planning on using her as an additional smg Teutonic knight or smg Trinitarian proxy since she fits so well aesthetically.
Why? What possible reason is there for that? I mean, we've had Aristeia characters in the game since N1. Why is this suddenly a bad thing?
I’m curious as well.. I’ve seen some hate for different A! characters in Infinity. She’s already in a couple PanO sectorials so adding her to MO isn’t much of a stretch. As a side note too, if something is added to an army that I’m not particularly fond of, I don’t use it. Doesn’t mean someone else might not like it as an option. Unless there’s a good rules reason why it’s “bad” for the army. But I don’t think Shona has a game breaking skill set for an already elite CC/BS focused faction. Maybe CB just doesn’t want more than a couple A! characters in MO. Lol
Very true. I have thought about that. Currently I have a strictly MO army. But I have thought of branching in SWF for that and a couple other reasons. :)
That was before Aristeia existed. Miyamoto escaped and Massacre was in the underground, not official, bloddier, Aristeia circuit... Most of Aristeia characters are media stars and living advertisments, not real combatants... (WTF Tao Wu??)
Shona also trained Aquilas, and i dont see the improve She is more like a consultor. Or a glorified mall cop in Starmada ships...
Over-saturation, affecting the tone of the game as a whole. Late N3 and N4 have become noticeably more pushy about Characters being integral to their armies (Shona in NCA is particularly bad; she's one of only options to score in L&S and Mindwipe) which makes a lot of Sectorial lists look like badly-thought-out hero shooters (both in fluff and on the table; half the newer links look like they've stepped out of off-brand Overwatch) instead of black-ops teams with the occasional action-movie protagonist for flavour.
a bit offtopic but i would 100% play a character based shooter with the aristeia characters. although my dream would really be an xcom style game in the infinity universe
This seems less like a problem with Aristeia characters existing in Infinity and WAY more like a design problem within modern Infinity. After all, several of these characters existed in Infinity for a decade without this being a problem.
Some interesting stuff so far. I love the idea of an XCOM infinity game. I feel like XCOM is one of the best games to capture the style of infinity. I would play the crap outa that! On a side note, in fiction it’s not unheard of to use war heroes and famous faces for propaganda purposes. Hunger Games is a big standout in my mind. And while many missions are very covert black ops, propaganda is very very big in infinity for several factions. So it makes sense to have some people who not only have some level of combat experience, but also know how to look good for some sweet warcore photo ops when needed. ;)
Including characters is understandable both from fluff and sales points of view (which, by the way, should be aligned almost always) but the problem comes when chars become almost compulsory or "kidnap" an integral part of the game. I think it's not the case -yet- in Pano but take a look at Starmada, or just O12's CC game. What makes me a bit disappointed is that characters can be nice optional additions to an army without becoming uber-powerful. See Aida Swanson, Quinn, (new) Singh, Konstantinos... I'd like more capable units with a few of those special options here and there.
I like the way you broke this down. I totally agree with this. Honestly, my original thought with Shona is from an aesthetic/lore perspective. She is a beast in cc, but that’s not why I’d like her included. Again, I really like your perspective and totally agree.
