I played my 2nd game today and got wasted by a haqsalim troop using ammo that shut down 3 of my troops in one shot. Wasn’t worried about that but I was at -12 for isolation and immobilisation. Is that correct as it felt like a High negative to impose and get out of or did I cop it fairly ? Any tips for next time on how not to get that ?
Which troops were being used, and how did he get those debuffs imposed? There's a lot of things to keep track of in this game, and different types of attacker need different solutions. -12 is the maximum modifier the game allows; it's a huge swing that should be avoided as much as possible but there are several ways to impose it.
EM ammo. It hit my invincible army from a shotgun type spread and got three guys. I rolled poorly and since it was EM ammo on HI it Immobile and isolated them and was the reduce to a roll a 1 to save. Which on a d20 to roll a 1 is quite hard. Unit hitting was the Marats or something similar. Does that shed light ? or was I meant to save once on isolate and then later for immobile or it was correct. I just got reduced to -12 and left to roll ones.
You got the rules right. A hit with e/m ammo imposes two saves at half BTS - failing either of them applies both Isolated and Immobilized to an HI. Those two states together impose a -12 to Reset. E/M is a very strong ammo type. Even a high-BTS target is likely to fail one of its saves. That said, the odds of three HI all failing their Dodge rolls, and also failing their saves, is very very low. So you had some extreme bad luck there. (Your question about mitigation strategies would probably be best in the Yu Jing subforum. In brief, it's important to position fireteams so that multiple units can't be hit with templates. You can also overwatch your fireteam with a sniper. And an engineer can repair the damage once it's happened.)
This here is one of the reason why it's often a good idea to take at least one engineer in your list if you want to play some HIs, as the engie can fix both the isolated and immobilized state quite easily.
Sounds like Ghazi, poor guy. I'd hate to have run into something like that with no preparation on my second game.
It was a blast. I won my first game and was told to be wary of it for next time but I requested to do the second game with the same army against them so I can learn from it. Was an amazing game. I lost badly and got locked down and struggled to stay afloat but held on till the end 3rd round. thanks all. I have a limited budget but will have to now maybe get one more box and take a engineer
Infinity is a very proxy friendly game, most people won't mind you using an existing mini as an engineer.
