Now you can! Iron Fists is played like any other game of Infinity: this rules mod allows you to play Infinity with a serious emphasis on TAGs, without changing the core rules very much, just some small tweaks to availability, a 70% requirement for TAGs and TAG-like units, and a couple changes to give Haris fireteams to most TAGs. You won't even have more models to track than normal, just a whole lot of STR to blow up. Spoiler: Design Note: History and intentions of this rules mod I first designed a massed-TAG-combat mod for Infinity in N2, also called Iron Fists. I got about 4 test games in, and it was good fun. Some of the N4's innovations for TAGs were anticipated in my rules, like an extra irregular order and small-TAG squads were included, but it was still clunky like N2 could be. Nowadays in N4 this rules mod is going to be a -lot- smoother. I rewrote those rules over a weekend recently: Ironically the very next day TAG Raid was announced. With that game coming out I hesitated to post these at first. But now that it seems TAG Raid will not involve the TAGs that most of us field Infinity (and being released many months in the future either way), I think there's still a place for a mod for the core rules to allow really big TAG-focused games of normal Infinity. Since so many people are playing on TTS these days, I hope a fair number of folks can give this a try. if you do, I would really love to hear your feedback and test notes. Please feel free to post them on this thread. Design notes in this post will be spoilered to keep things short-ish. Armored Clash: Points and SWC for an Iron Fists mission Low-tier: 400 points / 8 SWC, at least 280 points spent on TAGs, table 4x4' High-tier: 600 points / 12 SWC, at least 420 points spent on TAGs, table 4x6' At least 70% of army points must be spent on TAGs, as noted above. Ratniks, Blackjacks, and Su-Jian count as TAGs for this purpose. A maximum of two order groups are allowed. More than 15 troops are allowed, up to the two-group limit. A low-tier game is played on a normal 4x4-foot Infinity table (although you might want to ensure that the terrain provides a fair amount of complete cover for S6-7 troops in deployment zones). A high-tier game is played on a 6x4-foot table, with deployment zones along the 6-foot sides. Spoiler: Design note: Table size There are a lot of big, big bases involved here. Playing lengthwise on a 4x6 is also a possibility, with 18" deep deployment zones. This increases ranges, but also allows more-mobile TAG units to have more room to move around. With the Tac Aware orders on small TAG units and lots of 6" MOV values, as well as a lot of long-ranged weapons, the temptation to play longways is high. Maybe for an alternate mission? Bring Out The Big Guns: Increased availability of armored units All TAGs without the Camouflage skill are AVA: Total (except Scarface and the Avatar, which remain AVA 1) TAGs with the Camouflage skill but no Hidden Deployment are AVA +1. TAGs with Hidden Deployment gain no AVA bonus. The Anaconda Mercenary TAG Squad is AVA Total for all Human Sphere and Tohaa factions. Scarface is available to all Human Sphere and Tohaa factions (still AVA 1 though) Xeodrons and Overdrons are AVA Total for all Combined Army factions. All troops with the Engineer skill are AVA +1, except named characters. The following units are AVA: Total within their factions, and count towards the minimum required TAG purchase for this mission. All of them receive the extra Tac Aware order like TAGs, and they may all for Haris teams as detailed in "Form Up!" below. - Ratniks (which also receive a free Tac Aware order, like a TAG) - Blackjacks (which also receive a free Tac Aware order, like a TAG) - Su-Jian (these do not receive any extra orders) Spoiler: Design notes: Big stuff, should it include everything S5? I was considering allowing all Silhouette 5+ models to count towards the TAG allowance in this mission... This would end up including Dogs and Ajax, but those don't really seem too far out of the spirit of the mission (ie big armored dudes shooting/hitting each other). But it might not work out so well since those smaller units can often have normal Harises or be in full links. It would also require even more AVA-modification. I'm still not sure about allowing Blackjacks and Ratniks, but it feels fair? Su-Jians had to be included to make ISS even vaguely competitive, but the question is whether giving them Haris and a Tac Aware order is -too- much, given their extreme mobility. I'd love to see a batrep with this option. The Anacondas could get a little repetitive in the forces with one or no TAGs in their normal lists, but I see two reasons to keep them there. 1. Their AP Spitfire is actually really, really good in this scenario, especially for how little they cost. 2. When TAG Raid comes out I bet we have a LOT of new Anaconda-like merc TAG options out there, so the Anacondas are kind of a placeholder for now. I'm also considering dropping each force's main battle TAG into their sectorials, so ISS could get Guijias, Steel Phalanx get Maruts, etc. for this scenario. Still on the fence about that though. Form Up!: TAG fireteams TAGs with Duo on their profile get Fireteam: TAG Squad. These fireteams function much like a normal Fireteam: Haris except they do NOT provide the +1B bonus. They just make maneuver and coordination easier. TAGs may form a TAG Squad with other TAGs from the same unit entry in Armybuilder (ie same trooper profile, no mixed links). Wildcard troopers may not join these links. TAGs which already have the Haris, Special Haris, or Special Duo rule in any sectorial (Xeodrons with a Samaritan in Onyx for example, or Scarface and Cordelia, Maghariba and Rafiq, etc.) may use that formation in vanilla as well, including non-TAG troops. These Special Duos cannot become TAG Squad fireteams. TAGs without Fireteam: Duo or Fireteam: Haris skills gain the normal Fireteam: Duo skill, expect TAGs with the Camouflage skill which do not gain any Fireteam skill. Camouflage TAGS do not gain any fireteam skills. There is no limit to the number of Fireteam: TAG Squad, Duo, or TAG-including Special Harises or Duos that may be present on the table at the same time. These special TAG-fireteams function in vanilla factions as well as sectorials, unlike normal fireteams. You may have a single normal Haris fireteam on the board in addition to however many TAG Squads you have. Tactical Awareness orders may be used to activate the entire TAG Squad fireteam using the normal Tactical Awareness rules (the trooper spending their irregular Tac Aware order must be the link leader for that order). if a Pilot or Operator dismounts or leaves their TAG, they also leave the linkteam. Squadron Command: Lieutenant choice and TAG formation command One of your TAGs must be chosen as your Lt. This does not have to be a TAG which normally has an Lt option: any TAG is fine. Note this in secret as usual. The only exception to this is the Avatar, which -must- be the Lieutenant. In Iron Fists, the Mnemonica skill allows the Lt. to pass to another TAG as well as REMs and troopers with Cubes, should the Avatar enter a Null state. Non-TAG units cannot be your initial Lt. choice in Iron Fists, but they may be nominated as Lt. if you experience Loss of Lieutenant, may inherit the Lt position through Chain of Command, etc. as normal. Hearts of Iron: The basic Iron Fists mission [This is basically the Annihilation mission, but only TAGs and Lts matter for scoring.] Killing: 2 OP for killing a number of army points of TAGS within 10 or less points of the number of your TAGs that your opponent killed. 4 OP for killing at least 11 more army points of TAGs than your opponent did. Surviving: 2 OP for having a number of points of surviving TAGS within 10 or less points of the number of your TAGs that your opponent has surviving 4 OP for having at least 11 more surviving points of TAGs than your opponent did. Killing Lts: 1 OP for killing the same number of Lt.s as your opponent killed (at least 1 killed) 2 OP for killing more Lt.s than your opponent did. Spoiler: Scoring thoughts: what to include for killing/surviving Was considering making this number of STR points of TAGs destroyed or surviving, for simplicity... but that might also end up really uneven what with cost/STR ratios exist for high-end TAGs vs. Anacondas etc. I also guess it would have to be "STR or W", to cover Blackjacks and Ratniks. Spoiler: Who can be Lt. While the Lt designation can go to normal troops after the TAG-Lt goes down, most players won't -have- many other troops and those will be pretty squishy. It's also fun to force the TAGs to chase the little humans sometimes. I was considering removing the Lt. objective and replacing it with points for repairing more STR or W on TAGs during the game. That's not great with Anacondas though, because they explode if you muff that Engineer roll, and it disadvantages manned TAGs in general. But if it was matched with STR/W killed or surviving above, that gives Anacondas a big surviving-points advantage over more expensive TAGs too. Also not having to track what got repaired is simpler. I'm still considering this though. Practical tips for playing this mission: For armybuilding, use the browser version of Infinity Army (mobile doesn't allow 600-point forces). Select your TAGs first to keep things simple. If you need to add Anacondas or Scarface, use the NA2-Mercs option in the sidebar to allow them to be selected. Don't forget to subtract Cordelia's 17 points from the Scarface/Cordelia bundle, when you calculate your minimum TAG spending. She doesn't count towards your 420 or 280 minimum. For a physical game, put your Tac Aware orders, damage tokens, status tokens etc. -on- your TAG's bases, or they will be hopelessly mixed up with the other 2-6 TAGs right nearby. For TTS, not sure if you can lock objects together, but if so you might want to do that with the tokens and the TAG.

Spoiler: Edit log/notes Changed "TAG Harises" to be called "Fireteam: TAG Squad" to reduce confusion. Also clarified that you can also have a normal non-TAG Haris on the board at the same time as all your TAG Squads. Also upon reflection, I edited the unit-availability rules to allow Blackjacks, Ratniks, and Su-Jians to form Harises like TAGs, as well as have a Tac Aware order. Tac Aware orders in a Haris miiiiiight be a bridge too far with Su-Jians in specific, that definitely needs some playtesting. But the image of hunting-packs of Su-Jians is so cool that I really had to try it out at least. If you do playtest the game, maaaaaybe don't try Su-Jian packs out on your first game please :) But Harises of Blackjacks or Ratniks should be pretty cool.
