Letting Auxiliar FTO's join their Haris would fix them for Spiral, but in some ways I'd rather see full-on Triad. Otherwise they'll still be pretty poopoo in Vanilla Tohaa.
Maybe Holomask+Neurocinetiks would be the way to go. I like the idea of someone walking past your baggage chaska as you announce 'Aro autocannon' whilst placing those models that even look like trolls.
Even with Neurocinetics (or perhaps especially with it), I feel like they're far too expensive to justify. Which is sad, because based solely on the renders, these sculpts are some of the best to come out of the entire industry in the past couple of years.
I keep trying to put the Autocannon into lists to try him out but BS 12, 0 visual mods, no Triad, 1 wound, and 30 points keeps pulling him back out. *frustrated list building noises*
This is the same basic problem that the Kurgat has in MAF. The thing that makes the Tankhunter great isn't the autocannon; it's that it's a surprise attack autocannon.
The fact that they have Haris, not Triad, is such a huge turn off. Makes them completely useless in Vanilla Tohaa. And in Spiral, an Autocannon + two of the cheapest option runs you 74 points, whereas a Taagma Sniper + 2 Chaksa FTO is only 44, so they're STILL useless. CB please buff.
The first "tohaa" models I've seen that I actually liked. I don't buy miniatures based on their statlines and perceived "power level", but how they look and whether I like that "look". Because miniatures can exist 'outside' of their 'home' game. That said, with global shipping still stuffed because plague, the chances of me getting any before 2029 are bupkiss.
The easiest fix for them would be to give them triad or a special triad. The thing that makes them unappealing is their cost and their restricted linkoptions. Otherwise total reaction on some profiles would neat Or marksmanship or plain better bs.
"Unit is average and does not break the game's curve, please buff." Ah, the forums. Like an ever-flowing fountain of microfocus.
Yeah? Try using it in some games, then come back. The unit isn't "average," it's bad. Really bad. It's a worse ARO piece than a Sukeul Missile Launcher OR Sukeul K1 Sniper Rifle, which means its only usecase is in Active Turn, where with BS 12, Burst 2, and 0 visual mods it's going to have an extremely rough time actually doing anything significant. In Spiral, you can give it Haris buffs, but as I pointed out, the CHEAPEST Haris you can make is a staggering 74 points. Compared to the Taagma Sniper's Triad of only 44 points. Good luck justifying those extra THIRTY points (10% of your entire list). Hell, take a Brawler Haris. Sniper + 2 standard dudes is only 57 points; still 17 points UNDER the Chaksa Longarm one! And, unlike the Chaksa, both the Taagma and Brawler bring MSV2! Go ahead. Take it a few times. Then come back and let us know all the ways in which it let you down.
I will slag the forums with the best of them but even I would consider the choice to describe longarms as 'average' to be incredibly charitable.
In my book , Aeleis-Kosuil-Neema-Kotail sort of units are average. Sukeul,Makaul for instance very good units are very well optimised. These chaksas are certainly below average.
The Kurgat Autocannon is a VERY similar unit, and people have been struggling to use that to any effect since original Human Sphere. The Chaksa has all of the same problems, without the benefit of being an Engineer. I'm not sure why CB decided that these two Autocannons have to be awful, but they're clearly committed to the idea. They've had a decade to fix the Kurgat, and even after 3 tries its still a very bad choice. You would think that they're afraid the Autocannon is just too powerful, but of course its always been available in Ariadna on a better platform, and as far as I can remember that's never been a problem.
Alright, so, with Longarms coming to 4 new sectorials, what do we think the chances of them getting some sort of buff is? It'd be pretty funny if they went through all the trouble of adding them to so many armies just to watch them STILL get 0 table time.
