I haven’t even addressed the implied attack on a fellow forum member because I want to grant the benefit of the doubt that maybe, just maybe, this topic wasn’t intended to belittle a fellow forum member for a legitimate enjoyment of one of the game’s factions.

More that they adjusted PanO to be more Euro-Catholic as time went on for market appeal, to the detriment of what the faction was supposed to represent (Oceania/SEA).

I haven't heard about their uniform inspired by that but their name Commissar is communist. A communist party official assigned to a military unit to teach/enforce party principals. 40k Commissars seem more based off of Communist Russia than National Socialist Germany.
    https://duckduckgo.com/?q=commissar&t=ffab&ia=definition
Also it makes sense that Yu Jing would have commissars of their own placed in the army. I'd be surprised if they didn't have some sort of equivalent.

This was what I meant by the "sensibilities of the anglosphere".

The UK, NZ, AUD and especially the US have an astonishing talent for making everything about race or skin color.
It's a bizzare thing to observe to be honest.

Hold on a second, just to make sure I have this straight, @Hecaton takes a screenshot of a Facebook post, one in which a member of our community is expressing excitement over his chosen faction, and then (without blocking out this individual’s real name) makes an entire post bashing this guy. Did I get that right? I’m concerned that I may need to spell out for you how many lines that crosses. Do you realize how egregiously inappropriate, hostile, and toxic that behavior is?

The funny thing is that the most 40K thing about any of this is the original post.

This post needs to be locked, deleted, and frankly OP needs to get banned. @Koni

Many imperial guard regiments ape both WW1 and/or WW2 Germany. Death Korps of Krieg comes to mind as a mashup of both, for example, as does the Armageddon Steel legion. You can't really place a single reference point on any of them, but the Guard in general does have a strong fascist vibe and that's very much intentional. Originally the guard was hilariously incompetent after all.

But going back to infinity... I am on the camp that conflating MO with Space Marines is at the best a shallow comparison and at worst a bad misrepresentation of both factions. Marines aren't religious nutcases (in most cases) and MO isn't a bunch of warmongering posthuman idiots (that would probably be the Steel Phallanx).

I understand the multiple German aspects of certain Guard regiments. But I wasn't talking about the Imperial Guard as a whole. I was just making the connection between the word/job of Commissar and how 40k seems to use the real-world communist example & port it over into it's universe. They basically have the same similar goal of enforcing loyalty except the Imperium Commissars have a more "active hands-on" approach to their task than the Communist Russians did.

I guess they're similar in that they are more fantastic human factions with (usually) Latin decorations and a penchant for using CC when they have perfectly serviceable guns, but I honestly think the design of Marines is much better. MO is more ORCs with weird crotch banners most of the time, but hey, half the people I was able to raise for a campaign recently wanted to play PanO because of the knights more than anything else, so I guess they're interesting to most people.

Funnily enough, I actually like the MO style more than the Space Marines myself. I only dropped out of buying the new pack because I didn't like the new big guy that much and frankly I already have enough infinity armies as is.

However, I really dig the Infinity Power Armor design a whole lot, and MO, especially after the remake, looks fantastic to me. I prefer the smaller, more 'realistic' suits over the oversized, bulky pauldrons stuff GW points out.

Although Terminators are pure beauty. I'm a bit sad they seem to be going out of style in favor of primaris.

That can be fixed with a new release of Primaris Terminators. GW has replaced their still good & useful Chaos Terminator box with a new one to keep in scale with the Primaris' height. Same with the Chaos Marine squad box in getting a new size update. So it wouldn't surprise me to see the older loyal Terminator sculpts replaced sometime in the future.

I'm usually never pro-banning but I agree that this type of thing needs to be stamped out, if the forums have any thing left to salvage of their reputation.

I 100% love the infinity aesthetic of power armor much more resembling of Spartan armor from Halo or hard suits from bubblegum crisis than the super clunky armor of 40k.

These people posted it in a public facebook group. I'm criticizing CB, not the posters in question.

Frankly, I think the people calling for me to be banned have very suspect motives.

The thing is, I'm not usually one to care too much... but the situation with PanO is pretty hilariously egregious.

Are you talking PanO or just MO? Because you just said PanO and I have to ask why you are ignoring all these characters while claiming PanO is being white washed.

    Mendoza
seems disingenuous and cherry picked to claim otherwise.

Mendoza and Shona Carano are both heavily implied to be white and Catholic. But you can also see a clear progression - characters conceived of early on in the development of the faction are of this wide cross-section of ethnicities (including European), and later on it's mostly not.

    How are they 'heavily implied'?

Well Mendoza isn't "heavily implied" to be future-Catholic, just outright stated. Mendoza is Spanish; Shona Carano is based on a real-world person who is European by heritage.

    so European/Spanish automatically = Caucasian?

I mean, in the sense that "Caucasian" is frequently used to describe someone of European descent, that's trivially true.
