EDIT: PsychoticStorm asked me to remove the image posted here.

Anyway, we've got semi-confirmation that one of the works of fiction that's coming out for the Infinity universe focuses on Military Orders on Paradiso. I find this pretty boring and lackluster.

Since when are Infinity’s knights hospitaller the same as GW space marines?

They're not the same, but they're probably the least interesting part of the setting for people who don't play them. Definitely the least interesting part of PanO.

Knights of Santiago are closer to literal space marines. Though if USARF could get a John Glenn recreation that'd be cool.

My main worry is that writing a story from the perspective of a neo-Crusader is going to be really hard without becoming uncomfortably jingoistic.

I'm not really sure what the point is here?

Are there some similarities between Space Marines and Military Order Knights? Yes.

Are there also similarities between Space Marines and Morats, Yujing HI, Haqq bio engineered soldiers, Aleph recreations like Achilles, Hector and Ajax or pretty much any Infinity HI? Yes.

Are there also similarities between Military Orders Knights and dozens (even hundreds) of other sc-fi/fantasy/historical/anime/comic book influences?

Every time I see someone bring up the Military Orders/Space Marine comparison it suggests to me that person either has a really limited exposure to anything that isn't Warhammer 40K or has an extreme lack of imagination.

Could depend on what tack they take. A Hospitaller focused on evacuating refugees, or focused on fighting Morats, for example, makes it likely simpler. Additionally, if the character is more in the vein of De Fersen (wide experience of the world before a "Road to Damascus" moment) there's a decent amount of space to play with.

    It's not, really.

The 40k empire is a fascist theocratic hell hole with officers dressed in uniform inspired by the SS.

No one is uncomfortable reading any lore from that, although the counter argument would be that it's so OTT that it's hard to take seriously.

It's mostly that MO in Infinity seems to be designed to appeal to people who really really want to play Space Marine in Infinity, and I think the setting suffers for it. PanO should be this populous, diverse society and instead the only relevant people in it are white space Catholics.

Like you say, 40k started as outright parody, aping 2000AD and it's ilk. Even though a lot of that has been lost over the years, the Imperium is still so rediculously overblown and divorced from reality it still works.

A story about a near future Crusader Deus Vulting the unclean sets off alarm bells though, especially in a setting with so many analogues to our current world.

Not saying they won't be able to do it well, just that it's a little too easy to do badly, and seems especially risky when the setting has so much potential for interesting narratives.

While MO isn't my favorite, they are still interesting and far enough removed from the skull acne and kill kill kill of 40k, it still sets itself apart from 40k. I wouldn't say there is an emphasis on white people in PanO, especially since most of their characters aren't white.

Well they did other things than Crusade. More people should learn about Jean de Valette and the Great Great Siege of Malta in which they were the defenders, much like they are in the war against the EI. That said it was so insane a battle that if you wrote it as fiction no one would be able to suspend their disbelief.

It's also worth noting that already in the setting they've established that the Knights of the Hospital also provide medical care across the Sphere, plus finance, etc., and are far more than just front line soldiers.

I think it's a fear founded in the sensiblities of the anglosphere to be honest, this is not a sentiment shared by most of Northern Europe nor Eastern Europe.

Besides, by 'unclean' aren't we refering to Xenos?
Xenos is open season man, that's what's so great about them.

And they’ve already established that the EI/CA is an existential threat to humanity as a whole, so the Neo-Vatican has said “have fun, boys and girls”.

Do you mind maybe phrasing that another way? The “reee” memes are really shitty and insulting to folks with autism and related disorders and aren’t necessary to get a point across.

First of all yes Military orders are quite popular, therefore are interesting to some people, secondly each fictional universe has its own settings, rules and attractions.

Military Orders are not "Space Marines" as one would think of from the 40k perspective and narrative, as 40k Space Marines are not sci fi knights of the Church and so on and so on.

You are confusing "Reee"-memes with "autistic screeching"-memes.
They are not the same thing.
"Reee" are either code for shitposters who scares away normies or a mocking description of someone losing their shit for not getting what they want.
