What's everyone opinion on Govads in N4 HB.

In N3 they brought MSV1 for when you were going against lots of Camo/Mimitism (Aka steel phalanx). And being veteran was useful for chasing down jammers. But the consensus was usually that outside of those situations the Muyibs were better.

In N4, HB got access to Yara which brings MSV2. While only 1 model, it's still better than MSV1.Yara can link with anything which makes it easier to fit in a list. Even then, with the new shotgun rules you have easy access to template weapons for Mimitism (-6). Jammers being disposable(2) are not as much of a threat as they used to be. Lastly the Govad links are just not nearly as flexible as the Ghulam core.

Is there any real reason to play Govads. If playing again Steel Phalanx I might take a Haris just to get a secondary MSV flanking option, but I rarely build lists against specific opponents.

Thank you for bringing up this question. I was thinking about a lone Govad with HMG to counter the mimitism units of my JSA opponent...

I experimented with a Panic Room list with 4 Asawiras, a Govad sniper, and some other linkable guys like a Muyib. The idea was that if I went second, the Asawiras would give the Govad link bonuses to defend on turn one. Then I'd swap someone else into the link, leave the Govad by herself on ARO duty, and run the Asawiras into the panic room. Because smoke is really useful for getting into the room, and the Govad sees through smoke.

It wasn't terrible. I only tried it once, and went first, but the solo Govad did good work sniping enemies who were trying to get into the room under smoke cover.

Since then, though, I've found that I don't like 4 Asawiras in one fireteam... and I can't find any other reason to bring a Govad. If she could link with Ghulams she would be worth considering (but, still questionable since he rangebands conflict with Yara's Strategic Deployment).

I forgot about the fact MSV1 sees through smoke now. I can see some potential for the sniper. But I usually prefer daylami PF as my ARO pieces just because they're disposable. But with the 15 models cap the Govad MIGHT come in. But then you're comparing the Lasiq vs the Govad.

I find them to be situational like most things in this game.

I've run a Govad hacker as the single Govad in a haris a couple of times. It's... fine. Veteran is a nice skill on a hacker, and an MSV1 B3 shotgun hacker is theoretically a great model to close in under smoke on an enemy target to fork dodge/reset AROs.

Beside being immune to oblivion, why is veteran good on a hacker.

Oblivion is one of the more powerful programs available to most hackers thanks to it's high DAM and AP, cutting out your average Hacker's best ARO program is pretty solid.

Pretty much just oblivion immunity - with the additional minor edge cases that your hacking device can't be turned off my EM ammunition or Jammers.

I really started to appreciate Govads in N4. In all the last matches I did I saw an heavy-hacker meta, with lot of repeaters and pitchers as field control. I found the Govads is a really valid unit in my lists, to counter this tactic:
    • the base profile is cheap enough (20 points) to be easily included on most lists
    • Veteran is a strong counter against Oblivion, that's the main Aro the hacker network can perform on most of the troops
    • the changes in the shotgun templates makes really easy to sweep away pitchers in midfield
    • the killer hacker profiles cost a little more and makes it a valid specialist for a midfield button pushing (a bit more risky approach if the enemy fields a killer hackers as well, a little more rewarding if there are only hackers - watch out for carbonite)
Beside that, it's still a 20-ish model with a strong short range weapon and MSV, that can double as mid-field camo/specialist hunter.

    Lareon strongly approves.

I'am not a "big fan of hacking or govads", but I found myself including the killer hacking device in vainilla when missions like Highly Classified or Contremeasures appear, and he always did a good job. While in vainilla I have a place for this little guy, I do not in hassasin. But probably because I'am not going into too many tournaments right now, so I haven't to do, for the moment, two lists in order to face the tournament's missions. So I tailored only to fight agains a concrete enemy and for one mision.

Thanks to the downright ridiculous amount of wildcards in Bahram, I could imagine running a HMG Govad in a Haris with two wildcards, especially on missions with small deployment zones or an exclusion zone, where long-range enemy ARO pieces with Mimetism might lock down my army quite effectively. Once the Govad has done her job, the wildcards could be swapped into my main link instead. On the other hand, an Asawira or Muyib with Spitfire in a full 5-five man band would be even more effective against Mimetism, due to their higher BS...but there's something to be said for the HMG's better rangeband. I dunno. The Govads seem situational at best. I tend to use mine as universal proxies, because I love the models.

Yeah, I converted two of them to Barids and one to Yara. I can do a 5-man Core with 60% Govad bodies and 0% Govads.

(I did use the hacker recently, but only because I had 10 points to spare and nothing else to spend them on, so I upgraded my Ghulam. It was nice to be able to Duo with an Asawira, but otherwise performed identically to a Ghulam hacker.)

    Hello,

last week I had the chance to play several games in a tournament and I choosed to change a little my "clasic lists", so in one I did use of the govad HMG as a "haris" with muyib FO and Leila, instead of the haris "muyib spitifire+leila+yara". The change was looking for options when the "long range" will be necessary and when you fight agains several troups with mimetism. The second game was against Acontecimento and my rival deployed a tikbalang and a five members regular fireteam with two baghmari snippers. In his first turn he managed to take down most of my ARO pieces with the Tik (poor daylamis and muyib HRL), but nothing else. In my turn the "govad hmg" in haris (now a duo because Leila was killed by a Montesa) was capable of kill the tik, yes, I invested pretty much all my orders there, but it was worthy. Later, in the second turn, the govad could kill both baghmari snipper. The first roll was a little risky, four dices to 12 against two to 15, but I succeded, and the other bahgmari, 4 to 12s against 2 to 12s was more favorable.

So, the Govad hmg did pretty well.

I have played a single "govad killer hacer" in vainilla in missions like Higly Classified and Contrameassures and it did to really well.

If not playing limited insertion I still don't see a "full" of govads, but I think one of them "in haris" can be played in some lists as "a tool", because the Yara could be insuficient if the table is too wide.

I think I will do more use of the govad (HMG at least) in the future.

I've used the HMG as well and I think especially against fractions with a lot of visual modifiers the combination of burst 4 - preferably burst 5 due to the link - is a very nice addition!

You did get lucky there. The Bagh is actually more likely to win the fight than the Govad (Govad is 33% to wound, Bagh is 38%).

Against the Tik, the Govad is 34% to wound and 9% to wound twice. Did your opponent misdeploy the Tik and wasn't able to Guts into total cover once it had taken a wound or two?

I'm not knocking the Govad HMG, it's a useful unit though a little pricey for what it does. I just wouldn't want to use it for either of those fights given the odds.

4 dice on 12? The Govad HMG wasn't in a Fireteam...?

Ah, but it comes down to the classic Infinity issue here, IMO.
You don't always have what would be best in a given situation. Either not in your list, or not in a position on the table that would make it practical to use it.
So you go with what is available, and you hope it will the job done.

The question is then if a given tool gets the job done acceptably well. In this case, it sounds it did...

True, but fighting the linked Bagh with an unlinked Govad is a hail mary play. It's more likely to help your opponent than you - you're better off burning the order than taking the fight. You should only take that fight if you're going to lose otherwise, in which case you take the 33% chance of success and risk the 38% chance that you'll lose more quickly.

Against the Tik, sure, you're not risking anything except orders, so it's not bad to try to put some wounds on the Tik if you don't have anything better to spend the orders on that turn.

The mission was Capture and Protect, sorry I said it before.

Indeed I was lucky, but it was my only "long range option", the asawira spitfire was killed by the "montesa multirifle" in my rival second turn, the snippers were too good covered by mines, so my fiday can't go there and kill someone with a lot of danger. The other option it would be go prone (so, slower) to advance over the roofs, and I had pretty much nothing to lose and a lot to win. The enemy had really complicate in that point to come to my deployment area and try to catch the "balize". To kill the baghmaris was for me in the second turn, the best option to run in the third turn without almost no oposition. If things with the govad would be in a diferent manner, then I would try with the fiday.

About the Tikbalang, yes, my rival was shooted twice without cover, no wound was done, after that he could go behind it, I spend my entire turn shooting the Tik.

Yes, it was in a "haris", but for the time I need to shoot the baghmaris Leila were dead. The Montesa multi did a lot of damage in my rival second turn (even he managed to avoid a couple panzerfaust with dodge). I killed the Montesa with the Asawira doctor and his reallyable shotgun. This was an extra order thanks to frenzy in my last turn, and was really useful in order to bring the doctor inside the enemy deployment zone and take the balize.
