I'm not a PanO player, but I think a heavy shotgun Boyg (even with no other edits) would fill a very interesting niche in the army.
My biggest gripe with the Boyg was always that it's a S5 with next to no reason to be so big. Playing into that more by boosting its ARM and PHY values would make it a stronger choice in general and fit its big frame better, allowing it to take relatively safe Dodge actions to waste enemy Orders as an alternative to the linked KoJ's better face-to-face BS Attack performance. Leaning further into its hybrid-tech interface fluff could also be fun, with options like Immunity<IMM-B> being a possibility that is increasingly relevant due to Hacking coming back. Heck, even just throwing on a Nanoscreen would let it take positions without needing to account for the table. It's only one skill or quirky loadout away from being a good, fun choice.
I think if he going to be big, make him arm 6. Give him an AP heavy pistol, BS attack shock and maybe cut movement to 4-2 (10-5). Keep price the same. On the other hand you could give him holo projector and surprise attack -3.
It's already Dodging 3" on a 16, problem is that it's just not that useful, especially without a high CC score. The Bøyg doesn't need to get that close to the enemy, isn't a specialist, and just being able to Dodge really well isn't a selling point for a 46 point HI. Considering the fluff of the Bøyg is about how fast it is due to voodoo tech cube/machine interfaces I don't think making it slower, or into an S5 Sepulchre without the CC is going to sell it. I wouldn't even mind a price increase if it got significantly buffed, could even go for BS Attack (AP) to represent being able to place shots more accurately.
Yeah, the Boyg suffers from a terrible lack of synergy. I agree that if it's supposed to be a platform for speed tech it should reflect that overall. So 6-4 movement, Forward Deployment and a set of "Close Assault" weapon options (mk 12, Heavy Shotgun and maybe a Multi Rifle profile?) would work well. Make it the "heavy assault Nokken".
Mov 6-2 and special Operative would make him a decent unit. And that CB is using rules bloat on unit for managing the point balance is known.
Making the Boyg playable for real? He can't be an S5 2W HI with semi high CC and no minmaxing. You can fix him in a multitude of ways: - allow a Haris, KB can do it with a B5 HMG (please don't though, B6 is an abomination and we just got rid of FAT2) - add a MOD - don't make him a S5 HI 2W HI, make him Rem Pres and NWI (a mini "TAG" like the Su-Jian and soon the KothS) - bump CC to CC21 MA1 and tack on Frenzy - BS Attack (AP) None of that is exciting, but it's straightforward and it works (which is kinda Sval's motto) More fun solutions: - Neurokinetics + Sapper ML Profile
I’m gonna ask for too much, so just stop reading this list when you think it’s good enough Make it a remote Give it a repeater Total immunity Arm 6 BTS 9 Template weapon
I actually feel Total Immunity would be enough I think. I would hate having to deal with it because it would be very hard to kill.
Drats, didn’t read up on his fluff, I was aiming for harder to kill via unconscious states and marksmanship via evo. Generally making him hard to kill would be hope.
Maybe when suggesting units a quick blurb on what is perceived to be their current issue is in order? Looking at the taskmaster without playing Bakunin it sort of looks like a fixed boyg. Stealth, minelayer, direct template, tinbot and deterrent level CC without the pano bs/wip switch. All that said I think i've seen Bakunin so rarely I couldn't comment on it in the context of its sectoral.
The Taskmaster is pretty solid as it is. It's tough, it's got long range firepower, it's linkable with a very tough option (Riot Haris with a Taskmaster? yes please), it can fight in CC (well enough that against anything that isn't a CC guy it will almost certainly win and chin them), it brings it's own area control, it has a weapon for every occasion (all have deployables and minelayer!) and I would say that generally they are very effective. If you compare the HMG loadout to the KotHS AP HMG, for example, the Knight has roughly the same CC stats but arguably is slightly worse at using CC aggressively due to only having a shock CCW and NBW vs Martial Arts, against most people, the Taskmaster is preferable. The Knight has higher BS, and AP, but lacks the mines and minelayer, so you get a bit of flexibility from the Taskmaster, over a bit more raw firepower for the Knight, which seems appropriate. Both have Stealth. The Taskmaster is slightly better at dodging (and I rate that, especially on a CC capable guy), the KotHS has Veteran and BTS 9 which makes it v strong vs hacking... but man the Taskmaster is a Nomad unit, it has the support there. The KotHS has Holoprojctor and NCO which is v legit... but also costs 8pts more, and can't be linked, the Taskmaster can, with a pretty cheap and effective HI option too. The only things I would do with the Taskmaster would make it more expensive, and I think it is fine as is. In Bakunin it gives you a chonky ARM 5 man with area control, long range firepower and a bit of CC tech. I MIGHT consider that it should be linkable with something else, but I dunno what. Moderators would be ace. If Taskies could go with Mods, rather than Riots... that wouldn't be the end of the world.
I have to say that by accepting the Böjg as needing a fix we've set the bar for entry quite low and there's a whole eco system of HI that qualify; Yan Huo, Mowang, Taskmaster, Al Fasid, Ratnik, Blackjack, Gamma... hell if I'd make a priority list of them I'd probably put a Kriza-without-fireteam quite far up. Az'rail and KotHS has set the bar for what's good and what's bad among S5 quite high.
This. The only thing I’d do is change the linkability so that TMs go into Mod Links (rather than Grrls going into Mod links). Also add a Morlock FTO profile on the BSG/Combi profiles so we can have them in Duos. Taskmasters are fine. Their role in BJC could just be massaged a bit. I mean I’d like them to be Asawiras so I can justify running 2 Duos of them but that’s unrealistic.
