I cant understand this profile. What Will i do with this profile. I can take warddriver or brawler hacker too. What Will i do with a hacker of no use when there is shit but at least a real hacker even cheaper?
It’s only real use is as a holomasked specialist to trick your opponent into letting it get close to an objective, but it’s so incredibly niche. If you could use Zero Pain whenever anything within 8” was hacked in order to try and cancel the hack, it’d be usable, but as is it’s pretty bad.
Hoooooly crap, that -is- lame. Okay @Delta57Dash you are correct, that profile is pretty limited. Good for classified objectives in a tourney, and little else. But at least a sneaky way to get that hacker forwards, I guess? Zero Pain is great for soaking attacks and orders, little else.
Yeah pretty much. N3 Defensive and White Hacking Devices got turned into (Zero Pain) hackers, which took already niche units and made them absolutely pointless lmao. IMO they should add Fairy Dust to all the old WHD/DHD units. It’d give a way for Tohaa/Spiral to access it and make those units (few as they are) actually worth looking at.
Zero Pain is awesome for rope-a-dope (aka the Muhammad Ali Strategy). It’s great for drawing orders from KHDs and other “natural predators” onto an unsuitable target. On a hacker who only reveals themselves as such after an active turn of their own, it seems pretty ideal. Losing utility programs and Brain Blast from basic HDs was lame. Lets hope that decision is reversed in N5. But a basic hacker with no actual device but holomask and Zero Pain for 18 points is worth it IMO. It’s a sneaky classified in many scenarios. And it can pretend to be an MSV2 sniper, an Ectros, or whatever. And Tohaa shouldn’t have hacking anyways. They have Pheroware instead.
Eh, losing Brain Blast isn't actually that big a deal. Carbonite and Oblivion now work vs. enemy hackers, so you've still got offensive output even with a basic HD. And technically the Taagma gets revealed as soon as it declares Zero Pain, so it'll only waste the 1 order. Or they'll just kill it anyways, as a WIP 14-15 KHD will blow right through the Taagma's WIP 13 Zero Pain, especially since Tohaa/Spiral have 0 ways to get Firewall. It's actually the only Taagma profile I've never seen used. I've seen the basic one in Tohaa, and of course the Tri-Core and Sniper variants are in every Spiral list, but the Zero Pain? One of the major problems is that most Spiral Corps lists have 0 hackable models, which makes any Hackers your opponent brought left twiddling their thumbs, unable to do much more than Spotlight or Cybermask. Taking the Zero Pain guy gives those guys a target. It's especially bad because if you put the Zero Pain guy in a triad and walk it through a repeater net, every hacker on your opponents' side can throw Carbonite/Oblivion at it. Sure, Zero Pain is better than resetting, but a non-hackable model could just walk through the repeater net and the worst the opponent can do is throw some Spotlights. I agree that Tohaa shouldn't really have offensive hacking, as we have Pheroware to cover that, but there's no real reason why we should lack defensive hacking like Fairy Dust or Controlled Jump, especially considering we had access to them in N3 via WHD/DHD.
Tohaa has hacking nowadays and even have deployable repeaters even i dont like it. I would prefer that Tohaa doesnt have any and spiral corps was a sectorial of it and have some hackers. Especially killer hackers since it could be nice with sinister fluff. What i dont like more why is spiral corps is not a sectorial of tohaa? Almost all units are inside main Tohaa army except the mercenari
It now has "Comms Attack" as part of its traits, which makes it ignore Cover, be affected by Firewalls/Fairy Dust, and required "Reset" instead of "Dodge" to avoid. Which, I should bring up, does mean you can do the old Mutta trick with a Kriigel, which I haven't seen anyone mention yet. If someone declares Dodge as an ARO to your movement, you can Phero-Booster to get an uncontested attack. The value of doing this with a 25 point Kriigel instead of a 6 point Mutta is questionable (especially since you can already do this with Eraser inside of 8") but still.
Can u clarify it. Why isnt it face to face with a dodge? So i get out of cover and lets assume see a tankhunter on the roof. I used pherobooster he attack me back with missile launcher. My burst is 2 and my bs is 12. So if tankhunter aro with missile launcher. Do you claim it isnt a face to face.?
Comms Attack The use of this weapon, Special Skill, or piece of Equipment is considered an Attack that cannot be avoided with the Dodge Short Skill, but instead with the Reset Short Skill. Partial Cover has no effect on Weapons, Special Skills or pieces of Equipment possessing this Trait. https://infinitythewiki.com/Labels#Comms_Attack
actually at the moment we are discussing about if mimetism is involved or not. normally against comms attacks mimetism is not related.
... ???? You just asked if it was Face-to-Face, Tox posted a relevant section of the rules. Also, your BS wouldn't matter, as Phero-Booster is a Technical Weapon, so you'd use your WIP of 13 instead. To answer your first question, yes, the Missile Launcher is Face-to-Face, just like Hacking vs. Shooting would be Face-to-Face. If someone tries to dodge the Pherobooster attack, however, it would NOT be Face-to-Face, as per the Comms Attack rule Dodge does not function against Phero-booster, Reset does (same reason why Hacking is not affected by Dodge, btw). To answer your second question, yes, Mimetism would apply. "Any enemy declaring a BS Attack that requires LoF, or Discover, against the user of this Skill...". Since Phero-Booster is used by declaring BS Attack (like a Jammer, but unlike a Hacking Program, which is its own skill) AND it requires LoF to use, Mimetism applies.
okay, so you need to reset against a it.. but the pherobooster still wounds like a normal weapon?? so strange..
