    No.
He's a named character. Even those named characters who could - fluff-wise- be easily replicated, like Aleph characters with Cube L2, remain AVA 1.

    Ehhhh...

Well, they are now less of the DZ assassins and more of a support troop. With this change confirmed, I am now more likely to move them in via parachutist in the middle of the table to smoke up the advancement of my troops. Then if they survive to the next turn, they transform into the midfield warband that may or may not be used as anti-skirmishers, putting down camo markers through smoke with intuitive attacks. So it's not like they no longer have their uses in QK. It's just a very unintuitive thing to consider an 8-point warband as anything with long-term potential, but Yuan Yuans in the late game can be pretty devastating on your opponent indeed.

Bear in mind that you still come out ahead in orders compared to N3 if deploy the YY any time after the first Impetuous phase. The only time this is a "nerf" compared to 6 months ago is when you're dropping them right at the start of turn 1.

I swear you're either forgetting to indicate sarcasm or playing a completely different game to the rest of us!

How so? Wouldn't they still miss their irregular order if they drop on turn 2 or whatever?

Because you no longer have to sacrifice a Regular order to hold them back, in N3 even if you brought them in start of turn two you'd have already spent a Regular Order in turn one.

Six months ago you could bring an EVO that always applied the +3 bonus and run 4 of them in a 2nd combat group backed up by 4-6 more regular orders. So they were already "nerfed" now they are "nerfed" a bit more. Personally I find the order efficiency on the first turn to be the most impactful to the game.

I will gladly go off topic to discuss this with you.

First, Margot is not Tougher than Van Zant. He has Dogged and NCO. That means he eats a chain rifle / shotgun and gets one more chance to kill the target you are going for. plus an extra order for the attack. As far as shooting they are equals. You are going to use the AP rifle most of the time, with the shotgun coming in now and then. The GL should be resisted unless there is an amazing opportunity (in back arc, catching 2 or 3 models) or spec fire on a link or something. Its there, but you dont really use it most of the time.

Margot is a very useful toolbox, but as a 37 point drop troop with a single W and no mimetism... man you can do better even in faction. It's the combination of them which makes them both good and balanced.

Imagine if Duroc could be taken on his own for 29 points. He would be an auto include. I don't think anyone feels Mirage 5 is an auto include unit. (except for me because I love them).

I run M5 in every Ariadna list I produce, so I'm not hating on Margot. In fact I literally use her and Duroc over VZ 100% of the time because I think they are more effective than he is and I enjoy using them more.

I love Margot. Mirage 5 is the first thing I take in every Ariadna list. But I'll take the discount ,thank you.

I'm not sure anything able to walk in from the opponent's rear is ever going to be balanced, because it requires an unbalanced response from the opponent.

If it's worth the investment is something that depends heavily on your ability to identify it, your opponent being able to prepare for it, and the terrain allowing you to bring them in. Without knowing the terrain and how opponents are likely to react to it, it's very difficult to assume. I have an upcoming TTS tournament where we know the maps and on two missions I can safely say Mirage 5 would not be useful at all as it would be trivial to protect against it, but the third map is so cluttered in the DZ that bringing them in and then eviscerating all of the opponent's DZ would be trivial.

The sheer fact that my opponent needs to deploy taking the possibility of Duroc dropping behind him is a huge boost for the unit.

I think it’s ok that N4 slightly nerfed Yuan Yuan.

Sure. Take Tac Awareness off the TAGs in your faction with no reduction in points and see how you like it.

It’s an 8 point warband that can get into the enemy deployment zone on turn one. In N3, this cost zero orders. In N4 it costs one order. It’s still faster and more aggressive than basically any other model in the game.

I thought points costs shouldn't be compared in a vacuum? The sectorials/forces that could use YY's weren't exactly tearing it up in N3.

I wasn’t comparing it to anything. I do think that it is objectively inexpensive, however.

And to address the second half - it’s very possible for a faction to have underpriced units that distort gameplay while still not being top tier.

Internal balance - how choices within a faction compare against one another
External balance - how factions compare against one another (generally assuming “optimal” builds given their respective internal balance constraints)

If you played against an army with access to multiple Yuan Yuan, you had to deploy in such a way as to protect yourself from up to 4 chain rifle, smoke grenade, and DA CCW models entering your DZ as soon as your opponent got a turn.

Were they stronger in N3? Yes - both because they got to keep their irregular orders when dropping and because models like that benefitted from the higher order cap.

Do they still bring something to their factions (such as Ikari) that their other WB units (such as Desperadoes) can’t match? Absolutely 100% yes.
