Hi everybody. I’m new to Starmada and… let’s say I’m also “new” to the game. Even if started playing 15 years ago, with the first edition, I left the game some years ago,and never played N3.
So, N4 it’s my “bounce back” to Infinity. I used to play Haqqislam back in the days, but I sold them and I decide to start again with Starmada because the miniatures range is “affordable”.

But I must confess I’m a little bit lost. I don’t know where to start when I plan my lists. I’ve read the tactica posts and almost every post in the forum, but I’m still lost, so… can someone post their Starmada list and a little explanation of the reason to play this list, or why is this list any good?

I’m not a “copy-paste” player. I love to build my own lists. I just need some starting help to understand what it’s supposed to work, and why. I would like to try my own lists playing against my friends, but due the COVID situation I can’t play with others (no local places open to play right now).

So, please. Would you be so kind to share your lists o to help me with a starting list? It doesn’t need to be a competitive one. I just need to know if I need one or two hackers, how many fireteams, Kappas or Nyokas, TAG or not… Justo to know what you O-12 folks are playing.

    THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

I like to think of lists as very personal things - for your meta, what you think is cool, your playstyle. That all said, there are a few things below that I think are accepted as some of the reasons why you might want to pick up Starmada. This first list is what I'd consider a staple of any sectorial - you pick your line infantry and create a defensive link team, which you can then insert some attack pieces around. This isn't a bad way to learn a sectorial because your defensive link is pretty standard across the game.

You might want to consider the layout of the groups - and I'm by no means advocating this as 'the best' Starmada list, but it does give you a starting point. The Kappa link is defensive - you want the sniper and missile launcher somewhere obvious to defend.

Hector is in a haris with Parvati and the Nyoka. It is a lot of points, but can do quite a lot of mission objectives, classifieds and do some damage.

You've then got Casanova, a crusher and the millicent bot for some additional attacking. The crusher can go forward observe targets for the millicent or take them on himself. Casanova with monofilament can take on enemy TAGs, missions and all that sort of thing.

    Completely different list:

Focus here is all about board control. You've got Casanova, two Crushers and Andromeda starting in the midfield. Supported by the two missile launchers and the Epsilon. On your first turn - you can leverage the AD Crusher to take on some threats.

Once you've given these a go - why don't you feedback what you liked and didn't?

    Thanks a lot.
I completely agree with you about lists being something very personal. As I said, it's not my intenton to "copy" them. I'm not even a competitive player! But this helps me a lot to understand how the game works, the options we have and what should I consider (not as miniatures, but as strategies). For me it's a part of the game and reading your aswers also helps me to calm the hunger of playing...

I like both of the lists because they use a lot of different options, lots of kappas (which I want to be the base of my army) and lots of miniatures I love (Casanova, Hector, Parvati...).
I want to build my lists also around a solid kappa fireteam and I was afraid it wasn't something very useful, but I'm happy to see you're using them.

Always pros and cons of a big link team. I think Starmada is one of the factions who can function well without (or perhaps just a Haris option) - but keeping the Kappa isn't a bad option. BS12 in a 5 person link isn't awful. You can also look at swapping out some of the fillers with more useful options like the Psi-Cop - but it can end up a big 'eggs in one basket'.

Just as an aside, if it works for you, there are TTS (TableTop Simulator) mods where you can play online. VaulSC (Youtube it) does some very thorough 'how tos' which if you have a friend, can let you try out some of these things :D

While I am not a Starmada player, if you get the army box, you might wish to try the Lawkeeper. N4 is in a weird place right now as people are still trying to understand how much ARO is appropriate. Bikes can really punish opponents that don't leave out AROs and a fast specialist for 23 points is a good deal.

You are right! That model deserves to be used. Bikes where not a thing when I used to play, so I'm in love with the idea of using them now.
And the lawkeeper is sooo Judge Dredd... [emoji2960]

I've been musing on an option that seems close to @Captain_Rose 's second list:

    Crush Them

The main difference is that I lose the Epsilon and Andromeda. Instead, the aim is to use the second group and the bluecoat/kappa link in the first group to protect Saladin and Cho (who will also look like Saladin) and make it a little harder to snipe out the Lieutenant. Saladin should mean that at worst you have 8 orders to play with turn one if you don't want to bring the combat jump Crusher in round 1, and I think most of the time you want to try and get your opponent's heavy infantry/tag up the board first so they can jump in behind and drop a panzerfaust into their back

I think this list may struggle a bit against high armour targets - though I haven't had a chance to play much. Maybe the fact that the Crushers can use FO to target things makes up for a relatively lackluster hacking net. There's a lot of things I'd love to get in there (doctor/engineer, cyberghost for the pitcher, some melee capability) but trying to leverage all 3 Crushers to justify Starmada over Vanilla doesn't leave a lot of room for much else... maybe it is worth considering dropping Casanova for some of that stuff, but again, I feel like a list like this benefits from doubling down on the midfield presence quite a lot.

Honestly this list is mostly something I want to run because I think the Crusher models look awesome and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on them next week. Their aesthetic is making me consider reworking my entire O-12 paint scheme!
