Yes, it's an unfocused mess, but it's purpose is to try out new/disused units and take them for a spin against whatever the opposition throws out. But I thought to throw this out here for those inclined with minor suggestions or questions to start a conversation. Perhaps... What mission(s) would this list look attractive for? Which ones would you avoid like the plague? More specialists? What sort of challenges do you see it having? Dire warnings of it's impending failure can be skipped.
I'm going to tamp down on my natural inclination to critique model choices because, as you note, it's explicitly a testbed for underutilised models, so me saying 'take an Azrail rather than a Janissary HMG' is completely pointless. In terms of scenarios - I'd avoid it in Panic Room; confused deployment is too savage for all the airborne and infiltrating models. It could be good in Power Pack; Parachutists excel there and you've got midfield to try out, plus a mix of gunfighters for different ranges. It's probably also quite playable in ground control scenarios like Quadrant Control or Supremacy.
try moving the hakim into group 2. you have 5 command tokens and not a lot to do with them or your group 2. turn 2 doctor / smg / objective run sounds fun with 2 reg / 3 irreg to fuel him.
So I missed out on a game night with an ill timed nostalgic lunch at White Castle. So here's to next week. Excellent observation. I hadn't quite counted up how many models can't be in a coordinated order. It's much lower than I had so casually assumed. Not quite a useless amount but few enough that careful consideration will be needed, and that includes some unit shuffling I fear. Noted. I'm going to try to get our local players to bring some "hacking heavy" lists since those are all the internet wisdom along with freaking TAGs since the critical hit change has me a tad worried.
@Papa Bey what I was getting at is spending command tokens to convert irregular orders into regular ones.
Ok, there were some dithering changes. Lieutenant was scaled down to the regular version with the Warcor and the Panzerfaust ghulam were replaced by a Rafiq because I was antsy about specialists. Squared off against Steel Phalanx in Acquisition. Dismal failure for a variety of reasons. The important take away was that AP Spitfire was pants for the shootouts it should have been good for. 4 more games of evaluation. :D
Another game. An Invincible Army player took up the challenge and fielded 2 Mowang and a Yan Huo to see if Armor is getting to the unfun levels of play. Tangling in Safe Area I have to say that the Asawira _helped_ but wasn't so much so that other options could not have been employed. Optimal grinding down those monsters was when they were out of cover. Dropping the armor from 5 to 3 just wasn't a dramatic impact. Gotta get someone to bring a beefy TAG.
if you are playing vs Invencible army, the problem is that they got like 20 (HI) orders vs our 15 orders with irregulars/impetuos, balanced ?
Since I've been asking for "heavy armor" forces to play against (along with "hacking") he brought a heavy armor list. 10 models in total I believe. So 12 orders once the air drop guys landed if they hadn't died. In a quadrant control game that's a fair bit of beef to try to shoot through.
The joys of this list in Mindwipe. :( Steel Phalanx crushed me and only Retreat saved me from a 10-0 loss. That and no one remembering you can't crush servers until turn... 2. Wha-wha-whaaaaaa. Poor deployment only lead to the Asawira shooting Ajax to death from behind. Which isn't much of a challenge nor a test of AP vs armor. Someone around here needs to field a TAG. Next game I'll lead with the Janissary and see how that works out.
I know the point is to try underused models, but even so, it really doesn't seem like a Mind Wipe list. You don't have anything to kill enemy servers except D-charges on low-CC models. Keeping on-theme, maybe a Mukhtar Hacker? Per the other thread, I would consider it an underused profile, although I seem to be in the minority on that one :-) It would be fun to try to use it to fight your way into range of the server, anyway.
Can confirm; in older ITS scenarios this was different, but there's now specifically a 'can be damaged with D-charges' rule.
