Hey everyone, i tried this game out about 4 years ago and while i liked the game it went on the backburner due to some real life stuff. i'd like to get back in but understand some significant shake up occured with the JSA and would like i start a new army. I don't really know what any faction does/excels at (i bought models because they were cool and regretted the choice.) Could someone give me a quick run down as I"ve heard there are new factions as well. Thanks!
Hello, welcomm!! back? XD They are a lot of new things comming, because in september we will have N4, I think you could put the focus in the videos released this week about N4, and from beyond made the choice of with what to start "again". Exists a new "simplified version" called Code-One, where for the moment exists only four factions (in the future come more), and "kaldstrom" bring miniatures for Code One and two future N4 Sectorials (White Banner, in YuJing side, and Winterforce for Pano), if you are looking for something more like JSA, you could play JSA, we don't know how JSA works in N4, but now, in N3, it is a really well done army, has a true soul... :) I tell you of the new miniatures, catch the faction you love more the models :)
Also, O-12 is the new faction and definitely feels like it is marketed as a beginner faction. It uses strong, powerful units and has some flexibility for different play styles. Also, This link to the Bromad Academy has a lot of good information: https://www.bromadacademy.com/start/
from what i'm reading o-12 and yu jing seem like they'd be my style. are there any starter sets you all recommend for either of these factions?
O-12 just got their action pack which is positioned as a starter for Code One and N4. The contents are the same as the old Operation Wildfire + Beyond but without the dice, Shasvaasti minis, and terrain. Yu Jing are in the current 2 player starter Operation Kaldstrøm, which is again designed for Code One and N4.
o-12 i understand is basically their whole product line until the starmada drops. but are the yu jing in the starter models that you would use in real games? i've played other mini games where the starter pack models arent usually so hot for higher level play.
There's a new edition on the way, so that's not really a question that anyone can answer reliably. However, Guilangs and Daofei have been solid performers back to N1, and the Hundun is seeing a significant boost in N4 and promises to be very effective. The Zhanshi are the backbones of both Invincible Army and White Banner sectorials, and are useful in Vanilla just as an option for cheap orders. Jujak are essentially a big question mark, the current profile is a stopgap. There's a strong possibility they'll see a significant points drop in N4 and become much more appealing. So for N3 that's 3 excellent choices, 3 useful but not amazing, and 1 so-so, choice.
oh right, silly question of me due to n4 coming out. but thank you for taking a crack at it anyway! i still dont know which i'd like to play more but if i went off company paint jobs i feel i'd get real tired of orange/yellow.
Everyone wears colour changing uniforms in the setting so you can paint them how you like, the studio paint scheme is just the "parade ground" colours. They usually put a few alternate colour schemes in the various books too.
In the Miniatures section of the forum, you can find a lot of different color schemes for the armies as well.
i used to paint alternative schemes but got tired of explaining why i went with what i did so now i stick to "parade ground" or something from a book. just personal taste there \. o-12 would be fun because i've just got loads of colors from a small foray into cygnar in warmachine.
You won't need to explain why you choose any colour here, infinity's painting community is really open to any scheme. Beside that, wether it is for scheme or model to pick up, the most persistent rule that seems to stick from one version to the other is the rule of cool. Pick what you like seeing on the table and play it.
Okay out of the CB webstore (im US based) and with no FLGS to turn to....is mini market the only place to secure minis for this game? Discount Games doesnt seem to carry much.
https://www.atomicempire.com/ I get most of my stuff at Atomic Empire, though they are a local store for me.
http://moe-games.com/ is run by an Infinity enthusiast and is also a distributor so tends to get stock in fairly frequently.
https://www.ebay.com/str/shivgames is by far my favorite store and is the heart and soul of our local Infinity scene. He almost always has everything in stock, and if he doesn't, he'll have it in a week.
My experiences: Discountgameinc.com is good for GW stuff since rebate discount, but Infinity was random. Gamenerdz.com is best price with decent inventory, but slower at getting in stock. MOE-games.com is earliest guy, personally involved on facebook group, all around good company. If you're going to pre-order, he's the guy, and usually there's a discount code for preordering. Shivgames is on ebay, good pricing, good availability, but an ebay store. He's great for single minis and stuff, and ships fast, I think you can email him to get a bigger order together, but not sure. Miniaturemarket.com is not special in any particular way, but has a good range of other things, so if you're buying other items too, it might be worth it. (like Tiny Terrain, craters, campsites, drop pod things, et cetera) Amazon.com, selection is just totally random, pricing is generally high but then sometimes a random item is just cheaper than it should be! (only reason I got Beyond Icestorm was it was $22.) And ebay of course.
