Overdrons and Xeodrons should have just been S6 REMS

No, they should've been called Overtags and Xeotags.

Because an S6 remote with 3 wounds, a Plasma Sniper Rifle, and the ability to gain Assisted Fire sounds like a totally balanced unit.

It would lose an order. And it's not that bad compared to a Kamau sniper or whatever. It can't have fireteam bonuses. It might require some points adjusting, but w/e.

I don't hear you saying that the Kriza needs to go...

I’ve always found some of the Ur technology units to be a bit inconsistent.

    Skiavoro is MI with STR
Anathematic and Charontid are HI with W
Avatar is TAG with STR and IMM: POS
Ikadron and Unidron are REM with STR
Xeodron and Overdron are TAGs with STR

Didn’t get unified in N3, didn’t get unified in N4. Looks like we’re stuck with weird classifications.

Of all of the above, the Skiavoro is the only one where I actually know of a fluff justification - the Ur didn’t make those robotic bodies; they just found them and downloaded the EI into them.

If the Charontid and Anathematic both have W, I don’t see why the Avatar would not also. It’s just a bigger version of the same thing. I’m fine with it being a TAG instead of HI, however.

Xeodrons and Overdrons are described as being bigger versions of Ikadrons and Unidrons, so having them have the same classifications also makes some sense... although in N4 I find the difference to be less impactful than in N3. And see the Avatar above; at some point being a TAG instead of a REM is more about size than anything else. The boundaries get blurry with units like these, however.

That's because I would secretly love it if at least an Overdron could gain the Assisted Fire bonuses. And I would very much like to see Overdron on the table more often because the miniature is amazing. So, why not?

Specifically because of how hacking programs interact with them, as well as Tactical Awareness and what used to be Fatality. We know from the fluff that a Xeodron is not remotely piloted, it's just that entity. So why can a hacker possess a Xeodron but not a Unidron?

Honestly it feels like they were created under the N2 design paradigm where TAG = badass thematically, but was actually a downside.

I don’t think this is a well-answered question for Infinity in general.

I would not mind if the *dron TAGs got Immunity(POS) for thematic consistency.

Or, alternatively, allow REMs to be possessed, which would be funny...

Haven't we had this conversation before about the Su-Jian? And why those two specifically and not also Zeta, Cutter, etc? And why shouldn't the Vostok and the Rudra be HI?

TAG stands for Tactical Armoured Gear if memory serves.

Overgear and Xenogear? (yes, with an added n)

...REMs can drop prone now. Just a lotta yikes under the hood, they'd be trading order badassery for even more durability. Station a medtech helper by one and just keep standing it back up when it drops behind a low wall. Sure, assisted fire is nice, but have you ever been attacked by a S6 near-unkillable zombie with heavy armament?

Plus, if they were REMs they would get Fairy Dust protection at the same time as all other REMs, now CA player needs to choose who to protect. It's a small thing, but it's there

Fun fact, apparently they tested that briefly during N4 development.

The Skiavoro, IIRC, is intended to be a weird relic built out of captured tech, taken from a derelict ship of another alien civilization. I like that it has a really weird profile, beyond the little special rule situations it creates.
The Avatar is weird with its POS immunity, but I think part of that is that it's not just a remote (ie: a drone) like an unmanned TAG. It's a chassis with a cut-down copy of the EI itself downloaded to it.

I'm not sure how to feel about unidrons vs xeo/overdrons. I guess REM and TAG is consistent with what REMs and TAGs are for other factions, but my understanding of the lore is that 'drons aren't remote-controlled, they're some sort of synthetic organisms. Maybe that synthetic organism nature is supposed to be equivalent enough that the big ones can be overridden by other factions' hackers...

It's half-serious. I understand why it is (gameplay over verisimilitude) but it bothers me for exactly that reason.
