This was one of the units I thought might have some sense applied to it. But no. Still expensive for what he does especially when compared to Wolfgang. Yea, he's a slightly better shot, and has MSV. But misses out of all of the other skills, mobility options, and extra burst. Raw stats and equipment he's just not as good, skills aren't as good. But for some reason still costs more. That said, has anyone found him useful? Do you think he can be a solid option? What are your experiences?
Wolfgang has Frenzy which tends to come at a steep discount. BS13 and MSV1 are probably worth about the save as all the CC upgrades, especially being able to see through smoke. Veteran is probably worth the same as Climbing+ The killer for me in Arslan is the lack of Immunity (Shock) which means you have to pick your engagements very carefully.
CB can't do at least 2 things right historically, they can't solve MI problem ( easy fix, but they complicate it for no good reason ) and design characters ( which range from why do they even exist to borderline OP ). Also, N4 is currently a mess so things still might change and your boi Arslan might get better. Also, Wolfgang cheats with Frenzy ( Frenzy existing is one of the worst design choices in the game ) so there is no comparison that is fair there.
CB cheating their own points formula is one of the most frustrating things. Some of the other local players and I were talking about it and joking that there is one designer that doesn't know how to cheat their formula, and you can always tell which units they worked on.
Arslan being one of the few NWI profiles without shock-immunity is a real pity, since that limits his survivability a lot. But what bothers me more for the moment is the fact, that he no longer counts as Druze for fireteam composion. It would be nice to have a cheap core-team around him as a back-up for turn two or three. But now you have to carry one other Druze all the way, which makes it more pricey. His point is the MSV. DBS lacks visor-units and the MSV1 got a good buff with the new smoke-interaction and some new units heavily depending on their mimetism. So if I know, there will be Starmada or something like that, he finds his way into my lists and I am okay with the costs. But in every other case, he is too limited in his use, compared to the costs.
To be fair you're probably including the grenade launcher Druze anyways for Spec. Fire shenanigans, but having the option would be nice.
there is (or was) many SP/O-12 NWI character don't have shock resistance. unless im missing something arslan is a wildcard (any) now that can be part of any fireteam in the sectorial (even Scarface/ cordelia)
Not just arslan but Druze in general seem very expensive. I think he pays a reasonable amount over their baseline, but the baseline is just too high In a world with evaders, how a druze shock team costs 24 points is a bit much.
Oh yes, you are right! I underestimated that there. My problem with the wildcard is just luxury, since I would like to spare the Druze in each fireteam where he is included. The LGL in the core may be okay, but he needs other support then. Maybe there is a option by having Wolf solo in one group and Arslan in a cheap haris in the other group. But that is nothing reasonable, I guess, since a Bulleteer does better.
This is my issue with MI in general right now. Very few of them bring enough toys to warrant costing the same as "light" HI like Evaders, or Zuyongs, or Riot Grrls, etc. Arslan however is really paying a premium for a sub par package on our one thematic named character. Which is really just Druze as a whole as most of listbuilding seems to be minimizing the number of Druze outside of the specialty loadouts.
I definitely try to include plenty of Druze in my Druze lists, but I'm also pretty casual these days and am not trying to eke out every advantage going into tournaments. Druze aren't bad per se, but they definitely feel like they're a little expensive for what they do. I'd love a tiny bit of tightening up and streamlining of their profiles so that they really shine, but I don't find them unplayable at current prices.
Yeah, and to be fair they can brawl in the midfield. I would have been pretty happy with them at the n3 price point, but the price increase seems unwarranted.
There’s some variance in profiles, but they only went up about one point on average. Some were more, but others went down in cost. I’ve had some Druze lists that, thanks to multiple different small price changes, ended up within a point of their N3 cost. Now, were those lists strong in N3, and are they better or worse in N4? That’s not something I’m prepared to answer just yet. Fundamentally, nothing major changed about what an individual Druze trooper is doing in the game, unlike something like Bolts, which were another kind of pricey MI that got made over in the N4 transition to have a new and distinct role in their faction(s).
Yeah, I'm in favor of it for simplicity, since it means all the units have the same rules. It does add to the cost increases for those loadouts, however. And I don't think that sniper rifles, for example, benefit as much from an x visor as a basic rifle / combi does.
Trying to build druze lists and this really comes home to roost again. Frikken 36 points man. CB please give him another look.
I currently play 200points games - and I have to decide to take Arslan and WarCor or Druze Lt. and another option for 15 points. At first this seems an easy choice but if I field Arslan, I do not have to field the Brawler MSV2 Sniper but am able to take other options. 36points for Arslan is a huge chunk of points, but he was expensive in N3 and somehow I am very often able to squeeze him in.
