Afternoon all :) I'm two models in to an O-12 collection. I'll pop more up as I do them. I was aiming for somewhere between police, UN, and an ambulance!
I like your color scheme but I think you need to work on your eyes. You just need to paint a black line above and below the eye. This will form the eyelash. Don’t worry about getting black on the rest of the face, but be careful not to accidentally cover the eye. After this paint flesh over and around the black up to a point where you have a thin black line around the eye. Done :-) another tip: always do the eyes first before you paint the rest of the face.
I see brown lines above and below the eyes... the issue is that the black part is too small and the white too big, specially in his right eye, his left is less out of balance.
Yeah, I already had this convo on insta! Did the eyes a few times and the right one is definitely too big :). I'd had enough of redoing them, and they look fine at a normal distance! Next time maybe :) Thanks for the feedback and suggestions :)
Regarding eyes, I heard that it works better with a light grey then white. (But I usually don't paint eyes at all... [emoji6] )
I was pointing lines are there, but sizes are wrong, one worse than the other. Or try to make all the mini anime style, then big eyes are good. ^_^
good luck. It just takes practice. But it is worth fixing since the too big eyes are detracting from the good work you are doing on the rest of your minis
I decided to take a break from the O12 project to practise a few skills. Sorry if a 3d printed patreon mini offends, but I thought I'd post my efforts based on some of your feedback and some other skills I've been meaning to polish. This guy just needs a boot and pocket tidy and he's done. At least now you know why the O12 minis dried up for a little bit :)
I say it's such a shame your O12 hasn't gotten more attention yet. I love it! Really cool color scheme! What was your inspiration? My two cents for feedback: I agree on what @archangeleong said about the eyes. It also seems to me that your white is a bit thick. I've had the same problems with my nomads at first. Do you prime your minis white? If yes, try finer coats by having more distance between your can/airbrush and your minis and do multiple thin coats. If not, I would start priming them white ;) it's your main color after all. Keep up the work! I'm excited to see more of your Starmada!
The whites are Vallejo airbrush primer in white. Scalecolor tans and creams building to a daler Rowney white ink. Pretty sure they're the thinnest and smoothest paints on there! (Though I definitely need to go darker on the shadow tones - I want a clean white but it's hard to balance getting a nice tone with having dark enough shadows). I plan to get back to the O12 soon, especially as I finally finished this dude: Inspiration for O12 was police, UN peacekeepers, and high vis.
