Hello, im quite baffled with rules right now. Combat Jump (Explosion) use Circular Direct Template. It says that after PH roll, Circular DT is placed on Trooper that jumped and we check if there are any Markers and Enemy Troopers inside blast radius. Guys on forums says that if there is alone marker explosion is nullified. So going with this, mines wont work on Cammo Markers (effectively you get minesweeper) as mines are triggered by Camo Markers but Camo Marker cannot be a main target of DT Attack (which mines are) and if there is only single cammo marker attack is nullified. Am i missing something?
Combat Jump (Explosion) is an Direct Template Attack. If you declare an Direct Template Attack where the template doesn't hit a valid target it [is cancelled and - I expect -] becomes an Idle. A Camo Marker is not a valid target of an attack (in this manner). Admittedly I'm not 100% certain "If you declare an Direct Template Attack without a valid target it becomes an Idle." is explicit in N4 because I think it was clarified that way in an N3 FAQ that wasn't replicated into N4. @Mahtamori you know anything that prevents executing Direct Template Attacks without hitting a valid target? Edit: nevermind, found it. Example on Cancelling a Direct Template Attack: "In this picture, we have a Betatrooper who declares a BS Attack against a Fusilier with his Direct Template Weapon (a Nanopulser). He places it in such a way that it affects an enemy Camouflage Marker (CAMO). Since the Fusilier is not in the Area of Effect of the Teardrop Template, the Attack is cancelled and the Marker remains unaffected."
But in this example attack is nullified because it was out of reach. Not because there was camo marker involved. Granted you can not use flamethrower on camo marker alone. But in this case of Combat Jump main target is Trooper itself and affects others regardless of marker state.
@inane.imp dunno why you call me out, but I have asked a similar question before and gotten the answer from IJW that a DTW needs a valid target when declared and that the attack won't happen regardless of how the Marker AROs
Also, mines do not declare skills, this is why they work on camo. (And because the mine rules say they do)
Nope. The target is still an enemy, it's just centred on the jumping Trooper. "The Template must be placed when declaring the Attack in order to determine if the Main Target is inside in the Area of Effect and which Troopers and Game Elements (Markers, Deployable weapons or Equipment…) will be affected by the Attack, as this may influence their possible ARO, or second Short Skill of their Order. " " Direct Circular Template: The center of the Circular Template (Blast Focus) must be placed over the center of the base of the Trooper declaring the Attack, and every Trooper affected by the Template will suffer the Attack " So you still need to have a Main Target and it can't be the Camo Marker, and if the template doesn't hit the Main Target then it's cancelled.
Cos usually you know where random shit is in the rules when I forget and I know you're online right now [emoji14]
Okay, fair enough, I was walking to work (because fuck the crowded subways) so online was a bit on and off depending on traffic and cyclists in the area so to speak. Here's IJW's answer on whether you can Combat Jump(Explode) on a Camouflage Marker: https://forum.corvusbelli.com/threads/n4-yu-jing-the-good-the-bad-the-ugly.37736/page-2#post-361441 So, @Blackwrath in summary: Combat Jump (Explode) is a Direct Template Attack and it needs a target. Mines are not Direct Template Attacks, so they don't need a target, but the rules require the template to be touching one of the offending miniatures or Markers.
