Soooo I managed to lose one of the curved back fins out of my Xeodron box, and without it he just doesn’t look quite right. At first I thought I could sculpt a replacement out of green stuff, but, yeah, that didn’t work... Maybe someone on here has a good suggestion? Much appreciated!
gs is too soft for such a protruding part. I'd try to cut the main shape out of plasticard and use it as a base, with greenstuff only used where more curved shape would be needed. Yet another alternative would be to make a 3D scan of the other fin, flip it horizontally in editor to maintain symmetry, and print it out.
I second the plasticard approach, but if you start with a sheet that’s as thick as the thickest part of the vane you won’t need any greenstuff at all. It’s pretty much just a flat piece that tapers towards the end, so cutting and sanding should get you there. If you’ve still got a vane that isn’t glued in, get started by tracing round it onto the plasticard sheet.
Get yourself some blue stuff, make a mold of the other fin and cast a second one with resin. With a flat piece like that, the result should look indistinguishable.
Thanks guys, I‘ll see if I can get some plasticard then in the right thickness! I‘ve never worked with that before but I suppose it shouldn’t be too hard. Thankfully I do still have one unglued fin - unfortunately it’s very stuck to a bunch of green stuff from when I tried the “make a mold” suggestion and failed miserably ♂️
If the worst comes to the worst then you can contact CB customer service, they'll often include replacements for lost/damaged parts in an order from their online store. I got a replacement army for my Tac Bow ninja this way when I preordered Daedalus' Fall.
Some careful cutting and sanding should be able to retrieve the original part - greenstuff is much softer than metal, so you should be able to remove it without damaging the metal piece too badly.
Forgot the important step in press-moulding, then. "There's always time for lube." It helps the piece come out after the gs mould has cured, and it helps the press-cast piece come out as well. Even vaseline washes off with soap and water (which won't have any effect on gs or bs ).
Could also go the opposite way, and make him look really battle ravaged. Tear into him. Might want to sculpt a bit of protrusion where the fun would be, but then make it look mostly blown off.
